If you are getting what you want with what you want there is no need to ask. If you are not you need to keep note of what you want to do and then buy the lens that will do it. - Dave

My wife and I are both Canon shooters. She shoots with a crop sensor and 55-255 IS lens and I shoot with a 70-300 IS on both crop and full-size sensor. We have a great time and occasionally get some pretty good captures.

I think the important thing is to try what you have and enjoy each others company. We sure do!

Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, here's a gift. I've been accumulating links to various photographic sites, and they are available here in a 37-page PDF file. Some of the links have probably expired by now, but most will work.

Thank you! I will definitely spend some time exploring.

Hey SS. Does the T5 even have a Canon battery grip? Third party sure, but the batteries on a T5 are small, and video could be a challenge. The T3 and T5 are Ok cameras, but limited...

T3 and T5 take the same battery.

I have been retired for over 15 yrs and with getting older -78 now - I find my hobbies that took a lot of effort- fishing & hunting - have taken back seat to my photography and as I live in a rural and mountainous area I do most of my photography from or near my car. I always have a camera in the car no matter where I am.

Retired myself a few years back but not enough so I still work, do my honey do list and very active in my Moose Lodge. I too try to stay near my vehicle when wife and I go takin' pictures. Just hurts too much to do a lot of walking

Ok I have spent the day taking in all the helpful input you have givin. I also spent some time at a well known camera shop talking with them and looking

I am looking at a used Canon T3i with a 18-55mm lens it is in great shape for $299.00 Also looking at a new Canon 50mm /1.8 phto lens for $110.00 $30 for a charger if it doesn't have one, $25 for a high speed SD card, free bag and $45 a two year warranty total about $500 after tax

Not an expert but I will say the T3i is an excellent camera although a little long in the tooth now. I have one and use it frequently. Price for camera and kit lens is reasonable and it should come with battery and charger.

Too much for the 50 mm. That's about double what I have seen them for but it is a good lens.

I took a quick glance at the Canon refurbs but most are out of stock at moment. They recently had the T5 w/kit lens on sale for $200. Newer camera but doesn't have the articulating screen

If you're not in a hurry, you might want to watch the Canon site when they are back in stock.

Me to - I am having a lot of fun experimenting with some old manual FD lens in the reverse coupled with a bellows and tripod.
Learning to do image stacking has helped my macro works a lot.
The fellows here on UHH have helped me a lot.

There are just so many aspects of photography to explore, I just can't find the time. I guess we are all suckers for being seduced by such a tantalizing mistress!

Great buy on a good lens - BUT - like many of us we are fooled by the "Macro" setting on so many lens - we get very nice close ups but not true macro. For just a few $$ more you can buy some lens adapters that will allow you to mount this lens in revers and capture true macro photos..

I actually have the reversing adapter as well as a set of extenders. Have not really had the opportunity to utilize them. I was able to be less than a foot from my subject and focus which surprised me. Don't claim to be an expert or adept at macro but just havin' fun.

Thanks for the feedback!

Paid $25 for this Sigma 28-90, with macro @ 90mm. These shots were taken with it on a crop sensor. These were handheld and cropped to 8X10. Download shows pretty good detail.
