You got it all right except the one thing. Frank didn't say they defecated, he said "they dedicated on the floor". I'm sure you caught that and your just taking it easy on poor frank.

Yah...well I try not to be the spelling/grammar police. There's been people in the Attic that focus so much on spelling that they fail to make any contribution to the discussion. Fortunately they tend not to last...

My three boys are doing well. Two have over 20 years with good companies and all three are solid. They still laugh about my not recommending the military for a career and to stay in school. I had some fairly colorful explanations about my preferences regarding certain vocations.

That's really all you can ask for. Good job!

Lol, now that is truly the "great American dream!"

We can share our vast experience with our children. (See how that works out!)

Well, they all got to see me graduate from college. All four attended college. Three graduated. Three of them (including the dropout) own their own homes. The youngest is making money hand over fist and could probably retire by 40.

I'd say that we did ok.

So the question then becomes. If you were at a peaceful protest and the protest got ugly and physically attacked police officers then entered into a government building by breaking windows and doors, would it be wise to leave the area or would you enter illegally, break into offices, and dedicate on the floor?
Seems to me the answer for a law-abiding citizen is quite simple.

Seems like you left out a few "ifs".

I will be the first to admit that I did not watch all the video that was available to the general public from that day.

Some of the video I did see?

- Capitol police were "escorting" people around.

That happened but the Left constantly paints the event with one brush. Should violence be met with violence? Seems like if that were the case then the Capitol police didn't do their jobs. They should have held the line and called for reinforcements. Instead they were overrun and given citations and promotions.

You can say that I am a bit jaded but as I've gotten older I've come to realize that there aren't many honorable people left in DC. Something that has trickled down to every level. That does not mean that I condone the juvenile behavior of those that entered regardless of how they got in. Selfies, defecating in offices, willful destruction, etc.

Do I think someone should be in federal prison for taking a selfie whilst being escorted? No, I don't. Do I think the cops that did the escorting should lose their jobs? I think it certainly warrants consideration.

The other video I saw was the shooting of Ashli Babbett. Some will say that was a righteous kill. I say it was a tragedy...an avoidable tragedy. And personally, if I were one of the other officers near her on her side of the glass I would be seriously pissed at the shooter.

Hey, AKs are relatively crude but reliable weapons. And even a couple of NATO members or friends make their own versions.
A fair number of GIs in Nam had one they "found" and used, esp when they didn't want Charlie to know who was shooting at him. The AK has a distinct sound on auto.
We had the area transit barracks (think hotel) in our compound, and our security guys had a good collection they confiscated. Many of the HQ sections kept one or two around so in case of a major attack they could make use of ammo taken off KIA or captured attackers instead of trying to get through to the supply room on the far side of the compound.
We had a convoy escort MP unit barracked in the compound and each of their 3 & 4 man jeeps had at least one AK on board.

I get it. The AK works when its dirty and doesn't require a degree from MIT to clean and get in working order. I am not a gun fanatic but I do understand the notion of keep it simple.

Ukraine is not a NATO member.

Not yet. The next mega billions will require that they join.

Sorry but I cannot support your theory that the most impoverished states are the Red states. When was that? Is that recent? Perhaps your comment, you studied many years ago has some greater meaning here.

Dennis

One of the major factors to support that is the craptastic public education that goes on in those states.

They are not against border security, they are against the increased aid to Ukraine. They want Russia and Ukraine to sign a treaty and end the war.

Who in blue blazing hell thought of tying these two things together in one bill?

First off, it's not about ending the war or saving the Ukraine from Russia. It's about forcing the Ukraine into NATO compliance which incidentally includes buying all munitions from the West. No more AK's for you!

We, and our European counter parts will be sending aid money there for generations to keep the "military-industrial complex" humming along.

I think the key word there is conspire. I'm sure the majority of people in attendance that were not undercover FBI or other agencies had not met previously to discuss overthrowing the government but were there to protest.

Nah! Can't be, everyone knows we just make so much pollution that it traveled back through time and froze all the dinosaurs. Oh, wait the current thing is we are making it hot, not cold. Back to the drawing board.

I think it goes to our assertion that, we as a species, have so much influence in shaping the planet. We really don't. Amazon forests kept the scale and spread of ancient civilizations hidden for hundreds of years. Buildings and monuments that were on land in ancient Naples are under the sea due to the magma chamber emptying, not global warming.

At one of the National Parks in Utah, the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, there is this quote hanging on the wall.

“Civilization exists by geological consent, subject to change without notice” - Will Durant

That was true when he wrote it and it still rings true.

Thanks for the articles. Interesting. Looks like NP has gone dark.

Sure thing , no problem. Geology is fun, though mostly about catastrophes.

There was this educational program on TV about researching a volcanic eruption in the Polynesian Islands. The long and the short of it is that this one event was recorded in ice cores both at the North and South poles. This would require a huge eruption very close to the equator. That alone was interesting. It turns out that scientists are point at this eruption and one or 2 others as causing the Mini-Ice Age and associated Black Death Plague. It turns out that the needle does not need to move very far to see bad things happen.

https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-24332239

I guess when you read about these events it makes you wonder how warm would our planet be if these never erupted?

At this point I really don't care but I do wonder about those Capitol Police that were essentially guiding the "insurrectionists" about. Did they all go to prison too for aiding and abetting?....because it would seem seriously hypocritical to punish one group and not the others.

Absolutely! Lol!

Mine were stunned when I finished a semester and enlisted. Lol, I beat the draft.

The Draft was ancient history when I was old enough although some years later I did have to register for it. I do wonder if I should have enlisted as there were a few years where direction and purpose was lacking.
