Jigsaw puzzles made from photos...

I had an uncle that made puzzles from his photos. I don't know his process but he used one of the jig saws that used what looks like a string to cut out the pieces versus the wider blade. It was a great hobby and I have been told that when they had company, everyone wanted to get into his supply!
I had one made a few years ago but don't remember who made it so I can't help you there. But I do remember this. It lost some of it's contrast and color saturation when printed on a puzzle. You might want to boost these or ask about it.

Thank you for the suggestion. I might consider a slight color saturation boost for submitting a photo. Or, maybe order the smallest/cheapest offering first...to check out the quality.
We did this at Christmas for two relatives. Wooden puzzles. Interesting shapes. Need a high res jpeg to work.
I will say the final product came out darker than submitted photos, so you might want to adjust for this.
If I can find the company that did it, will post another reply with name. They were easy to work with, and had different puzzle sizes available.
Just plugged "Puzzles from Photos" into Google and came up with a couple dozen sources, including Shutterfly, Costco, Walmart, etc.

I understand but main companies like those mentioned stand behind their products, and you can read many current reviews versus getting 1-2 outdated here on something that specialized.

Point taken
I remember seeing that collage.com creates jigsaw puzzles from your photos. I have no ideas how good they are. Vistaprint.com also does them.

We had 1000 piece puzzle made of a lighthouse for my mother-in-law last year...we were very happy with the results.

We took portraits of our four and six year olds, printed on 11by 17 paper, mounted to foam board, used a blade to cut unusual shapes, with about 30 pieces, challenged kids to complete the puzzle. Great rainy day activity.
If I were to have a jigsaw puzzle made from one of my images, I'd go to Ravensburger. They used to offer this service and may still. And, they make a very good quality puzzle.
Just got my granddaughter one from White Mountain and it was a good quality. However, the largest was 11 by 17 and only 99 pieces but she wanted White Mountain. Photo turned out well, all pieces were there and they separated pretty easily. It did not come with the metal tin as advertised so I would get the cheaper version. Shutterfly has them as well but wait for a sale. They go up to 1000 pieces I think but if you read the reviews, it seems the quality may suffer if you go above 250 pieces. Walmart puzzles seem to have descent reviews but did not try them.
If you want really nice wooden puzzles check out mgcpuzzles.com (Mark Cappitella). He lives in CT. Very high quality. Been cutting puzzles for fun for a long time and has had a business doing this since 1995. Know him very well.
