I dumped Chase years ago. They charged me a foreign exchange fee for a number of purchases made in the UK and when I called to ask about them, they were nasty. I found a web site (this was in 2001) called "ChaseBankSucks.org". Yes, there were a number of people complaining about them, but there was good information, as well. I got the address of the head of the bank. Wrote him a letter (cc'ed the Comptroller of the Currency, state AG and BBB) telling him what had happened and that I wanted to cancel the card, the oldest card in my wallet. I had the issue resolved to my satisfaction, cancelled the account and haven't done business with them since. Banks need you more than you need them, there's plenty of competition out there.

Customers have a LONG memory. I had AT&T incorrectly charge me a surcharge on phone credit card calls (remember telephone credit cards? - had to punch in the number at every call) it was only about $30, and my company paid $400-$500 per month per salesperson for phone charges, but despite escalation to management at AT&T, they would never refund it. I swore I would never use AT&T again. That’s been about 40 years and they must have called or emailed me 100 times since then trying to sell their services - not a chance. They lost many thousands of $ over that $30, but it was the principal involved.
