I put between 10,000 and 12,000 miles a year on my 2005 Kawasaki VN 800 motorcycle. I carry my camera along, just in case.
I gave up golf though. I can stay home and get pissed off for nothing. Why pay for it?

I had to retire 2 years ago due to health problems but the doctors said that one of the best things I could do for myself was to have a hobby. I hadn't been planning to retire this early (I'm 64 now) and I really hadn't given it much thought and it was my doctor who suggested photography.
I was just wondering if anyone else has (besides photography) any interesting or unusual hobbies?

Don't let " senior center ", put you off, you can have some good times, and guess what ? YOUR A SENIOR !!!
Remember high school , seniors were where to be. Now it's even better, cause you don't have to give a crap about what anybody thinks. YOUR A SENIOR CITIZEN>
You're absolutely right about that. My wife and I just recently moved into a 55 and older community and I attended my first senior's computer user meeting. The average age was probably 75 (and I'm 64 and an ex-programmer). I assumed I would learn nothing but be inundated by questions and instead I filled a notebook with all the "tips and tricks" that these people gave me. God willing, if I live long enough, I may one day become as smart "and wise" as they are.

Long rangse handgunning with open sights at steel plates. I was teaching a certified handgun course but I am in the process of going through a total knee replacement and the physical aspect is too demanding on it. I did have the opportunity to instruct members of the Connecticut Renegades, a mounted cowboy action group. It is kind of a spin off of SASS. They shoot at balloons from horseback using a corn cob media instead of bullets for the sake of safety to the audience. I took up photography because it looked like fun. I had a point and shoot for years but needed an up grade so I went with a Canon T3 to get my feet wet and decide if really wanted to get into it. In many aspects shooting and photography do have some similarities. Sight picture, hand hold, and trigger squeeze are paramount. It is very evident that many of you in this room are very dedicated to your hobby and this is not the place for a gun control debate but I would like to say that not all shooters are bad and not all photographers are child pornographers.

Would that be metallic silhouette shooting? I still have my XP-100 in 7-08 from those days.

Cowboy action shooting. SASS. Look it up. It is fun. Went to a shoot in Jacksonville a couple years ago.
Oh my goodness! My husband's parents live in Lakeside! They have been there for 48+ years and used to have 2 horses, chickens, dogs, cats, and my husband had a goat as a pet when growing up. His dad is 93 and his mom is 86. They live on Saddlerock on the hill with a fabulous view and a lot of property. I have taken some amazing sunset pictures from up there. (oops, hijacked.....sorry!)
How about philately. A hobby that I had when I was in my late teens and now restarted.
Kinda sorta. I have a plate about 15" in diameter. I hang it at 200 yards and shoot at it off hand (one handed) with a non scoped 6" Ruger Mark II in .22 LR. Depending on the day, hold over is about 3-4 feet. You can only jack up the rear sight so far. Wind is a factor but so is mirage on a really sunny day.Seeing the target isn't exactly where it is. You just have to know where it is. Like putting a pencil in a glass of water.
I've been riding off-road, or dualsport motorcycles for years, and also got into geocaching about 6-7 years ago. I always have some kind of camera with me in the tank bag, so I'm ready for almost anything! A bottle of water, a sandwich, and just enjoy the scenery. I usually concentrate on the off the beaten path gps stash's. All around the Goat Rocks wilderness as well as around Mt Rainier area. Big fun! Also do a bit of hiking when can't get to the geo-stash.

Geocaching and woodworking(especially with a lathe).
Nice view in the back ground. My brother had a dirt bike when we were kids. I rode it through the lower branches of a huge evergreen in the front yard. Other than a few scratches and a mouth full of pine needles, I was OK. (Everthing tasted like gin for a week)
There is a somewhat new pilot's license call sport pilot. You are not required to have a medical. Planes that you can fly under this license are lower performance, two-place, and you may not fly at night. Flying is a GREAT hobby. But keep in mind that an airplane is used to drill holes in the sky so you can throw A LOT of money into it. Still, it's better than sex.
I build scale models-cars,a few planes,etc
I have been a member of the Houston Automotive Modelers Society for over 20 years and took up the hobby when I was 9 years old(a long time ago!)
I do woodcarving, fishing and play my guitar(for my own therapy). I had my own photo studio for a good number of years, but now I only shoot what I like.

Not if you're doing it right!
Collect minerals and agate, which fits right in with macro photography. Also playing folk music on guitar, harmonica and kalimba. I like photographing folk musicians on stage and in informal concerts.

I have only one hobby, shooting; camera's, pool, and firearms. It is all shooting and all require follow-through.
