I agree Wahawk. The only Senior pic we had was what was in the annual and we certianly had a suit on. I think these new ones are really nice. I can see how in 20 years or more it would be fun to look back on pictures like these instead of what's in my annual. I was so cute in my suit and pimply (probably not a word) face. Nobody touched up then.

You are a baaaaaaaaaaaaaad boy.

But you did such a great job of making her beauty shine!! And that makes her so attractive to anyone!! Would be a joy to know such a beauty, and to have the 'privilege' of taking her pics.

For the styles of today's youth, I think the outfit is just what she wanted because that is how she feels the most comfortable. I just wish I could have used clothing like that when I was a senior back in the late 60's instead of HAVING to wear suit or sport coat.

You did a very good job, keep practicing with her and see how SHE likes the results!

i think you have a nice start here, but the difference between "nice" and the really good stuff is in the details.

Most of the people here know y view of the selective color stuff -by and large it is usually done poorly and it is usually just a "look at what I can do." In this case you have it backwards - if you really feel you have to do this, the part in color is where your eye will go and you took my eye to the background. I think it would be nice if it were all in color. I know, others like this, but it is SO 1995. :-)

While I am thinking about it, did you know that photographing on railroad tracks in most states is illegal? In every state it is trespassing. It is also overdone! Do not get caught.

In #s 2 & 5. watch the hands - not good placement. Would have been much better with the hands places up on the thighs - anywhere but where they are, actually.

#3 is really nice - best of the group. But we have the problem SO common with senior portraits of the girls - they love sleeveless tops and those bare shoulders and upper arms have as much or more skin area as the face. When you bring the arms up as in #3, the arm competes with the face for attention. I am very clear that they should bring a minimum (if any) number of sleeveless tops. Look at #5 and see how the arm competes with the face.

You did a nice job, My comments are just to help you improve. And stay off the tracks!

I thank you, I need all the advise I can get. I take all comments for what they are meant to be, constructive. I'll try and remember everyone's kind and well meant suggestions. I have learned so much from everyone on this site, usually I don't say much because I don't know much, but thanks to you all I am slowing but surly learning.

Ty. I take the critics for what they are trying to do, help me to take better pictures, if they're bad, I hope they let me know. I can take it. Everyone here is so nice, haven't heard only one terrible comment since i've been on here and she is no longer here. Her parents are very happy with the pictures.

Not that I'm a professional in anyway but just looking at them from a viewing stand point, here's my take.

First, all are very well done. I love the composition, lighting and frame effect.

The first one, I'm distracted by what looks like her navel piercing showing through her top. I love the framing..great call.

The second one, I don't like the fact that you can see her pink polka dot bra through her shirt. Again, it draws away from a great shot.

Third one, my favorite..it's sweet and you want to get to know her.

Fourth is good but you see her phone sticking out her back pocket. Again it is a distraction though not too bad.

You have a great eye and your subject looks relaxed and comfortable. That is no small feat with a teenager! # 3 is my favorite and I would love to see the frame portrait (#1) reversed as well!

Just to add a bit: the tops of the rails are polished indicating that that is an active line. So, not only is it dangerous to be there, it is also illegal=for both of you

And to think I "hopped" two trains as a kid. It was a longer ride than I expected.

Much better Woman4404. You may want to touch up and add the color, back into, the lower left and right of the frame. I wouldn't worry too much about the railroad, track thing. I usually ask for forgiveness rather than permission. I've never known an innocent photographer to get prosecuted for photographing on a train track (someone will probably look that up and show, I'm wrong).
Just make sure there's no hopping. I don't think there is to much of that going on any more.

The photograph tips the Captain made is spot on as always. I often go back and change problems I have with images after a review. After some time you become better at self evaluation (the time varies from person to person based on ones commitment to excellence and the ability to change what your doing).
Above all enjoy!

Russ
