I need my coffee in the morning, but I second your thought about scotch.

This week, for the third time, my Keurig scaled up, reducing the flow to a trickle. We have lots of of calcium in our water, just look at our sinks. My back-up is a French press. It is a bit more trouble , but makes acceptable coffee.

[quote=SteveR]I have and use a Keurig. I also use K-cups which I fill with my own coffee. The one problem that I have is that the coffee is not sufficiently hot so I have to heat it further in the microwave.

Keutig is a great idea, but chronic problem of temp. control. Coffee should be brewed bet. 195-205 F. Every Keurig I've owned (and usually returned ) heats well below that, mostly 162 F.
The exception seems to be their smaller single cup model where you add water for each cup brewed. Have never (6 machines) had the company agree to replace a single brewer. Bed, Bath and Beyond, however, replaced every brewer!

Received a Keurig for my birthday almost ten years ago - it lasted up until last year when it lost its ability to measure the amount of water needed for any setting. Replaced it with another from Costco and kept on trucking.
We've found "San Francisco Bay" coffee to be the best for our tastes, strong yet smooth. Always get a couple good cups from one pod.

I agree with the San Francisco Bay brand, especially the dark roast. Not only is the coffee better than most, but the knock on Keurig is that the disposable pods are not recyclable. San Francisco's pods are 98% recyclable, and less expensive than most.

I've yet to have a good cup of coffee out of a Keurig, haven't tried them for a while so maybe the new one s are better, my favorite, Sunday morning coffee, is Chemex, all glass, heavy filter, pour over, next is an ADC, that's for everyday, Bob.

When I first started making coffee I bought a Chemex. There's no question in my mind that apart from my Olympia Cremina espresso machine, Chemex makes the best coffee. But it is a major pain in the ass because the filters are so good that water takes forever to go through them. So first you soak the grounds and then LITTLE BY LITTLE you add water and wait for it to filter through.

I am on my second Keurig. The first one the heating element went kaput and I called Keurig and they sent be a replacement for free. It was out of warranty when it happened. I just had to send them the cup for doing your own k-cups. The water in mine heats to 195 and it is the highest setting. I drink 1 cup of coffee a day and my wife drinks 1 cup a day. We drink breakfast blend which we usually get at Costco or winco. Winco has individual cups for .50 cents Costco comes in a box of 60 so about every two months I buy a box at Costco.

Best of both worlds - I bought the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Coffee Maker for my wife; it does full pots or single Kcups. I have the Ktichenaid Pour Over model, which makes a great coffee from fresh ground beans.

Computer, UHH, and Keurig - that's how I start my day. After more than ten years, the ON/OFF switch on the Keurig is becoming temperamental. Two days ago, Amazon had a one-day sale on the basic Keurig - $60. It will arrive today. I use refillable K-cups, so each cup cost just a few cents.

Hmmmm Just bought the Melita refillable K-cup for my basic Keurig and it does not fit, useless!

When my wife and I renovated our kitchen last year we went whole hog and put in a Miele in wall, plumbed in coffee maker. It does coffee, cappuccinos, lattes, espressos and latte macchiatos. I absolutely love it and there's no cups to worry about. Now - it was quite a bit more expensive than a counter top unit but my wife didn't want to lose the counter space.

The heart wants what the heart wants and I enjoy the good coffee.

Same problem here. I just fill mine with white vinegar once a week and run through then run a tank of bottled water through.

The best coffee I have ever tasted was in Hawaii, at the Cona Coffee farm.

I wish that I could find it for my Krug.

Some people think that the most expensive coffee in the world, Kopi Luwak (poop coffee) is the best. Having had a cup of it in Java, I don't agree. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopi_Luwak

Never started drinking coffee

So I don't have to fork out money for the coffee or the coffee maker.
The money I save can be spent on scotch.

Why not have both?

Jerry, I have the same morning schedule as you. I can strongly recommend Pete's brand of K cups .
