Nice crisp shot...well lit. What distinguishes the Northern Crow from the much more common American Crow?
Thanks jak86094 !
- in Florida, the (northern) American Crow is very uncommon in my area ....the smaller (dumber?) Fish Crows are VERY common ! ......

Got ya...makes sense. Thanks for responding. Keep taking beautiful photos.
This time of year we get flocks of American Crows in the hundreds sometimes. Noisy and messy. I just watched a video where a crow completed a problem solving task that took 8 unique steps using 2 different length of stick and three stones to access a chunk of food...remarkable. First he had to retrieve a short stick dangling from an 18” piece of string. He used that to access three stones from 3 separate enclosures. He then dropped the three stones into a container where gravity opened an enclosure containing a long stick. 2 stones would not have been enough to open the enclosure. Once he had the long stick, he could use it to prod a chunk of food from deep within an enclosure. Not only did he complete all the tasks, but he did the 8 steps in the correct order to minimize the time it took to access the food...in other words, the only order that would really work. No trial and error.

Excellent detail Larry--not easy to accomplish on an all-black bird!

Another trip to central Florida - managed to get my first image of this elusive Northern Crow with an acorn ! These are considered to be one of the smartest birds on the planet and therefore quite elusive - this one did not hang around long for a second shot ! Another box check on my bucket list.
Canon 80D and Canon 400 prime W/1.4X from carpod in bright (brilliant/high contrast) light from a decent sized cropping.

looks like you outsmarted one of the smartest birds on the planet...excellent shot and detail, larry!
