Backed everything up, then downloaded Mojave onto MAC Book Pro and everything is running smooth. Visit Apple Store they are always very patient and helpful. Of course if you go in with an abrasive and negative attitude, well .........

If you try to install Mojave on an unsupported computer, the App Store will gently remind you that you cannot do that, and will ask if you wish to install the last supported version for that computer (if it's not already installed).

I did and my computer went byebye. I cannot get into the internet, i cannot bring up any downloads, i cannot get into my email at all !!!!!!! I am typing this on my wife's laptop. I have an over a thousand dollar apple computer that i can only play solitaire on at the present time. I am going BACK to apple to have them delete this new opperating system and put in the last operating system, "High Sierra."

I have no idea how much data i will lose, but if i can get back to where i was i think it will be worth it.

Rich, I can understand how you're pissed off. You probably don't have a backup of your computer on an external drive. If you did, you would have restored it by now. Let this be a lesson to everyone:

Do not own a computer unless you own the means to back it up on a regular basis! Apple makes it easy, and even automates it, with Time Machine. Get a large external hard drive and set it up to use Time Machine.

Here are a few tips for upgrading to any new OS version, gleaned from decades of owning Macs and PCs:

BACK UP. BACK UP in TWO PLACES if possible. Store one off-site, or in a waterproof fire safe.

Do not let any hard drive you're actually using get more than 75% to 80% full. The only time you can safely fill up a drive is when copying files to an empty drive for archival storage. Otherwise, the OS needs "breathing room" for swap files, temp files, fragmented files, and maintenance routines that run, automatically, in the background.

Before you upgrade, check the weather report. Don't do it if there are storms (i.e.; lightning) coming, or already in the area.

If you're upgrading a notebook or laptop computer, be sure the battery is fully charged, AND that the power supply is plugged in to a clean power source (NOT a circuit with a heater or heavy appliance).

RUN ALL your operating system's drive diagnostics routines and let them repair any problems they find. Empty any caches, discard orphaned TEMP files, etc.

On a Mac, Disk Utility has First Aid. You should be running that on all your drives, monthly, anyway.

Safe Boot a Mac (hold down the shift key until you see the Desktop or the login screen). Then wait ten minutes, and shut it down. This clears out a lot of crud.

Clear the PRAM or NVRAM by restarting your Mac, then holding down Command plus Option plus P plus R, AFTER you hear the startup chime. KEEP holding them down until you hear the startup chime at least once more. Parameter RAM and Non-Volatile RAM are small memory storage areas that contain various settings. "Zapping" them like this clears corruption that may have occurred due to power failures, hard shutdowns, etc. AFTER clearing the PRAM or NVRAM, you may have to open the System Preferences and reset some of the items there. It's a good idea to check them, anyway.

While you're in System Preferences, open the Energy Saver and temporarily check the box to "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off." This ensures that the computer will be awake through the entire upgrade process, and stay awake until you check it after the upgrade.

Upgrades generally take a long time to download and install. I like to do them late at night, when I can start them and go to bed. You do NOT want to accidentally interrupt an upgrade in progress.

If you take these prudent precautions, there is NO REASON to be afraid to upgrade a Mac to Mojave if it has the resources to support it. If you have a back-up, you can always get your computer back to where it was before the upgrade, and visit an Apple Store Genius Bar for help. Apple has the BEST support in the business, and if you're patient and nice with them, they'll often go beyond the expected.

I have Mojave and it works just fine on my MacPro. I suggest taking your Mac computer to a Mac store to have them look at it. It seems to work fine for millions of others.

Didn't loose any data, but did have to find a work around to do a few things in Lightroom. I called apple and they were a big help. They helped me with the work around and told me they were aware of the issues and were working on it. Said we should be seeing an update with the fixes soon.

I had the same thing occur to me. Here is my story. After installing Mojave my 2014 Macbook Air became a dead brick. I called Apple support; after 5 hrs of working with them Mojave was running but no internet and indication no hardware installed even though in save mode it worked. After numerous attempts to make it work, they gave up and an appointment with Apple’s Genius bar was made for next week.
I arrived at the Apple Store and the tech also could not get it to work and all his attempts to reinstall failed. Next step, leave the laptop for the backroom Genius to fix. The next day I got a phone call and told my hardware was OK, they wiped my hard drive and installed Mojave, not an update version but what would come with a new Mac. When I picked it up we went over how to startup using my time Machine backup. When at home I started the install procedure as directed and at the appropriated time connected to time machine. Now a new problem, the laptop would not boot up, it constantly would restart by itself. Back to the Apple help desk. To make a longer story short after three days with Apple support (about 7+ hrs), 2 trips to Apple’s Genius bar, another 4hrs, I re-installed Sierra from my backup and got my computer back. Total time spent is over 24hrs and I am back to where I started I will never ever install Mojave to my Airbook or to my IMac

Some people complain but as I recall one is always advised to have a complete backup including a system boot before upgrading any computer operating system. I read the instructions first, and seldom have anything to complain about.

I updated to Mojave with few problems.
1. There are some new security "features" which may force you to add apps to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Full Disk Access. Most apps will alert you and guide you to doing this.
2. Time Machine may not work. Updating to MacOS Mojave 10.14.1 may help. Google for more info/help with Time Machine/Mojave problems.

You got it right, for iMacs my mid 2011 is just now topped out at High Sierra. However, High Sierra is still supported with security updates so I'm still a happy Apple user. No need to get a new computer. This one is just fine for all I do.

Your experience is certainly atypical, and more likely as not due to an error on your part. Call Apple support. Your data should still be there. And of course, you have a backup.

Sounds like a PIBCAK error (Problem Is Between Chair And Keyboard) My first thought is that your ISP setting were somehow not properly transfered. Thus no internet or e-mail. Contact your ISP's technical assistance by phone for help in knowing the right things to put into the appropriate boxes in order to set up your internet connection. You say that you can boot and play solitaire. Do the other mac native installed apps that are on your HD work? Maybe check Photos. If they work That indicates that our mac is working OK but is not able to "talk" to the internet. BTW I treie to download and install Mojave but it refused to download because my Mac issues old that it is incompatible with the newest version of Mac's OS. I seems from memory ha there was way to bypass the safety net and load it anyway. If you did bypass the safety net , then don't blame the OS
