Are we in the twilight zone? The last Windstar was built in 2003. General motors was building garbage runs then as well. Remember the Chevy Astro that was a real engineering marvel

I had an Astro that I drove for 300,000+ in 12 years and I wish I still had it or a new version. Lots of room, comfortable (I had the upgrade "airline style" seating), a good sound system (helped on the daily freeway commute of 90-100 roundtrip a day M-F).

We had a 1993 Trans Sport van for years, the wife named it Vanna. The one thing I remember about that van was, the windshield was huge, it just went on and on and cleaning it was a major chore. I also remember it rode really nice and had a boat load of room when the seats were removed. We had a lot of fun with that van.

I had an old 63 Dodge, push button. Oil stick broke off, so I added a quart each month. Had to add water each week because the radiator leaked, but it was a great car to drive. Rode really well. Keep me going while in school for several years. Wish I had it back.....

My very first car was a 63 Plymouth Valiant. I worked part time in a service station and a salvage yard and an auto parts store. I'd been tearing down and rebuilding cars and motorcycles and things mechanical for several years at that point. The Valiant had the big slant six with 3 on the column. It needed some body work when I acquired the car, but mechanically the car was quite sound.
My friends and I did a lot of work on that car, we basically re-did it from the ground up. We beefed up the suspension, installed a hyper pack, headers and dual exhaust. The 3 on the column was a sluggish pain so, when the transmission developed problems, we converted to a push button 3 speed automatic.
My friends and I put a lot time and effort into that car. The last phase of the project was paint. We painted the car ginger bronze metallic and it was gorgeous.
Several months after the car was done, the youngest member of our group, he was a senior in high school, asked to borrow the car to take his date to prom. He was a good guy and a careful driver so I said yes.
Later that night, on their way home, a delivery truck ran a light, struck the the vehicle in the right rear quarter panel, sending it into a spin then eventually into a utility pole. Needless to say ( but I will anyway) the car was destroyed.
I was glad no one was hurt but I was totally devistated about the car.
Maybe we'll get back together and build another one, this time shoehorning a V8 into it.

Managed to get 283,000 out of my old CRV before it died. Now driving a used 2009 Subaru. It only needs to go until I retire in a couple years.

Yup or you could (Shove-or-let) your Chevrolet. :D I'm pretty sure I drove them all at one time or another Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Pontiac, Chrysler, Lincoln some AMCs etc and my camera list through the years would be similar and they all served the purpose at the time. :D

My brother had a Spider with magnesium wheels when he got back from 'Nam. It was in a constant state of ongoing repair. But it was a chick magnet.

I don't know dude. When you retire is the time to keep it. I would love to have a new(er) truck for my grandson because my '98 F-150 back seat is too short for his car seat to fit in and give him leg room. However, a new truck is too much money when we can go to Disney several times for that. So hang onto your Soooob a roooo.

None of our Fords ever broke, they have been great cars, especially our current 2017 Fusion Hybrid SE. 51-60mpg around town, very smooth and solid, classy looking shiny black.

I have had some really good Fords in my time and I'm really pleased with a 2017 Expedition I rented a couple of weeks ago. It has a little over 48K miles on it and it is very smooth, powerful and quiet. I've driven it from Dallas to New Orleans and now on the the way to Philly. Very nice car.

I live in Center City Philadelphia. When I retire, my need for a car will drop below the cost to maintain the insane insurance rates in Philadelphia. I can take Uber and (my now free) mass transit for local and rent a car when traveling.

Yep, that makes sense for home life. But what about road trips to NYC, St Louis, or New Orleans

Train to NYC (nobody wants to drive in NYC) St. Louis and NOLA. Think I will fly.

There are two kinds of Alpha, Pre and post FIAT. The "pre" had their problems but were pretty decent over all. The "post" were almost as bad as the Fiat itself. And that is about as bad as it can get. (As long as you don't include early Volkswagen Beatles in the conversation)
