As an apprentice, part of my training was to produce notices; using stencils and ink pens: for various things. Obviously not yesterday. :-) Needless to say, one day I produced a message with a spelling mistake and neither I nor my supervisor spotted it. This was pointed out to me a few days later by lots of the office staff, mostly with laughter but obviously there were a couple of critical remarks as well. The one thing that I do remember though was the comment made by the chief surveyor who told me that mistakes do happen and we need to do our best to avoid them but that also, a spelling mistake in a notice seems to ensure that everyone sees and reads the notice.
When I note to a coworker she had misused “i.e.” (that is) when she should have used “e.g.” (for example), I was angerly told that she could not afford to go to Harvard like I had. I decided it was not a good time to tell her I was a proud Trojan from USC.
You could have suggested she actually use the English text instead of the Latin abbreviations....
LOL That wouldn't have gone over well either. This was one of those companies where the management created a culture of high stress. And she was really stressed out.
For those in the So Cal IT industry from years ago, management came from another company where they were known as "the shark pack".
