Sending a fz1000 back to adorama tonight. I bought it to take it AK last week. It was a fishing trip with a little photography. I ended up shooting about 1000 shots and when I got home I was very disappointed with how soft the pictures were. I was on a tripod a lot of the time and was shooting raw and most of my settings were OK. Just didn't like the end results. The camera also feels like a plastic toy. I have a fz200 and like much better. Hope you enjoy yours if you have already ordered it. I've bought a lot of cameras over the years and never returned one. It's nice to have that option because I really don't like this camera.

First time post: I shoot Nikon D7100 with longest lens a Tamron 16-300. I have used a Panasonic zs40 as a travel camera, mostly for the zoom. It has been damaged and needs replacement. Taking an Alaska cruise in July and thinking a 'bridge' type rather than 'point and shoot' would suit me better. Considering either Panasonic FZ1000 as familiar with the buttons, or Sony rx10. Any thoughts as to which may serve better? I like to shoot flora and fauna, landscape, street photograhpy, etc. NO birds. No patience and not enough glass. I am returning the Panasonic zs70. Disappointed in focus and to small for me to now hold steady. No tripod going with me.

Your opinions and recommendations appreciated. Right now leaning toward the FZ1000.

What about the Panasonic FZ300? It's a bridge camera with a constant aperture of 2.8 throughout the zoom and 600mm zoom (24X). Shoots both JPEG and RAW. 4K video, dustproof and somewhat water proof or water resistant. Only $497 at B & H Photo, no tax if shipped outside of NY and NJ. No shipping charge. Great alternative.

Blue_Ultra ... I think you are confusing the Sony RX 10 with the Sony RX100. There's no way you can fit the RX 10 in your pocket !

Thank you Nick,

OMG you are correct I just looked and there is a missing "0". Sorry to all who are following this post.

Indeed it is a RX100 III... And yes it fits in my pocket.

I just purchased a RX 100 III Sony from B & H is was used but in new condition in the box with everything got a good price on it. I am still playing with it as the menu is very different than the Nikon that I am used to. However different is saying it lightly a total new learning curve. But the camera shoots in RAW and has 20 mp with a f1.8 Ziess lens and fits in my pocket...So far the phtos I have taken with it are very good.

A couple of shots taken with the Sony RX100 III at my grandchildren's graduation party. Sorry about the small size as these were in my phone and I do not have the originals here at work. But you can get an idea of the quality of the camera's images. Taken at ASA 400 to freeze the motion of the kids on the trampoline. Like I said just learning to use the new camera.

Corrected RX 100 III, Sorry for the mistake.

buy a very good quality sony dsc rx10 of the newest model you can afford and a couple batteries and you will never look back. It is slightly more substantial than the lumix fz tho their specs say otherwise. the big difference other than lens length on the fixed lenses is the sensor. I believe Sony's is what they call a stacked lens with much more modern wiring and which avoids some shadowing from sensor tiny lenses which pick up the light guided to it from the camera lens and get it directly to the sensor's processor cells which makes it faster and eliminates some tiny shadowing which makes the sensor give clearer net images than the panasonic. They are close and for casual photos the lens should be the decider. For quality, the sensor of the Sony wins hands down. I own both and have shot about 4,000 images with each. I have the fz1000 stored and carry the Sony rx10ii in the car for constant use. A close decision but the sensor did it when I looked very deeply at the same images taken with the two cameras. Must my opinion.
