As a former newsman, stories evolve as more information comes to light. This happens all the time witness the administrations many clarifications on a story such as the Stormy affair!

I think in the past 8-10 years "newsman" has become an oxymoron. The biases, hatred, and prejudices of the writer or broadcaster are the way the "news" is presented. The manner in which an event is presented and depicted is the result of those problems the reporter has.

Looks like; The news was released by NASA, or intercepted during a live feed downlink with limited detail when first noticed. That would preclude any real investigation, or conclusions. Alert! We have a leak! It's plugged, now, what caused it? The news will catch up as the story plays out. I don't see deception, collusion or anything else.

We citizens need the news from as many sources as possible, otherwise someone else will decide what we know.

Sorry to say you can’t trust news sources now all they care about is getting viewers at all cost. Lies, sensationalizing, making things up etc, they have their own agendas. Unfortunately many people believe what is reported and have no means to see if news stories are factual. Newspaper sales are way down so you have to do whatever is needed to keep the doors open. The public only likes to hear about bad news and the media loves that

Although I do agree with you, the state of what passes for "news" nowadays is dismal and much of the time fake and hopelessly slanted, this time it's clear.

The first paragraph of the second story explains the reason for the followup story:

Quote:
Last week, astronauts aboard the International Space Station woke to an alarm warning them of a pretty serious situation. The space station was losing pressure, which means a leak had formed somewhere on the spacecraft. With a finite amount of breathable air, the race was on to find the location of the leak and do something to fix it.

It wasn’t long before a tiny hole was discovered in the Russian-built Soyuz spacecraft docked to the space station. The tiny opening was thought to be the result of damage from a micrometeorite, which isn’t unheard of, and the crew quickly came up with a plan to repair it. Now, days later, Russian space agency Roscosmos says the hole wasn’t made by Mother Nature, but by a person with a drill, and tensions are high.
Last week, astronauts aboard the International Spa... (show quote)

I won't insult you over this however...I'll leave that to others :)

What we need is honest and unbiased news. Where do you find that?? If you watch or listen to the mainstream media they will decide what you know and it based on their biases.

Make fun of the publisher.
If more people do the same, the publisher may start selling lemonade in the neighborhood?

If you want to wander about the news listen to any major news story here, then tune in to the same story from a foreign country via shortwave radio. That will make you wander!

The initial report said NASA provided the photograph. The reporter implied it was the actual hole but apparantly it was a file photograph. The initial article also missed that it was in the Soyouz vs. the actual space station. Since they could simply close the hatch on the Soyouz the space station wasn’t in danger at all.

Shoddy reporting in the first article. Perhaps in part due to the pressure today to be first rather than accurate.

The bigger story is what continues to happen with the investigation into possible sabotage.

Correct me if I’m wrong, Bob, but a reading of both articles clearly shows me that the story changed due to new information that further clarified the origin of the hull penetration.

If that is the case, and it clearly is, why try to make it a case of “fake news” that is being ginned up by the media?

The two holes look entirely different. So, maybe there was two holes.
