So to move from dx to fx, in Nikon would you start at 620, 750, 810 or 850 (5 is totlly out of discussion).
I have an offer of a job but for some reason they do not want dx. It is portrait work. Please don't grill me on why fx instead of dx, I know for a lot of shots you can compensate, that is just their preference. I know there is $ in lens changes but there may be comp for that but not for the body. They actually will loan you lenses for a time.

For portrait the D620 or D750 will do the job. You need to list what matters to you and pick the one that best meets your needs.

If price matters consider Nikon refurbs. But buy from Cameta for free one year warranty extension.

If you take any stock in the DxO lab test results of Nikon FX cameras, check out this link:

None of the above given current events?

Why not just rent a FX body for the job and use their loaner lenses? Seems like the logical thing for maximizing profit.

What do you mean by “5 is totally our of discussion”. What is 5?

Start with the best you can afford!
If you gotta ask, it won't matter which you use. Good luck!!!

I just went from a D300 DX to a D850 full frame. Love it. Ain’t lookin back!!!! I’ll be on the D850 for the same 8-10 years too

First look at your work and what you want to do in the coming 5 years. Put together your requirements then pick the camera that meets your requirements. Forget about forum opinions and fan boys for opinions when only your requirements should be met. Not internet bias.

Yeah, dsiner, I wondered that, too. Which Nikon camera is a “5”?

There's also the Nikon Df. It's a 16MP FX camera. It has shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation on dials. I rented it once. I liked it a lot except for a couple of small things. The front command dial is mounted vertically and is hard to turn. The neck strap loop on the right side gets in the way a little when you put your finger on the shutter button..

I think he was referring to the high end pro D5 released circa 2016.
