You're not missing anything, Greg, and I could very well be missing something myself. I was mainly going by the prey, the bird's feathered legs, heavy body and broad tail.

Donna, I understand. I checked in my other book, "A field Guide To The Birds, by Peterson" and I think I maybe correct. They are so close to each other I am not going to worry about it. Either one is still a great looking raptor.

WOW!!! Greg this is an awesome set of images.

Jack, I got lucky yesterday. Glad I cut the grass and that helped the hawk hunt like he did. I appreciate your comments and the three thumbs up.

Good catch, is that a small snake he has?

Nim, yes it is a snake, non-posinous and common around here. They are called a "Worm Snake". When I used to fish about everyday for bass I actually had a worm that had the same colors. One of my secret baits. Thank you for stopping by and leaving your comment.

Went out early to the blind to beat the heat, I almost did. Was set up for hummers when I saw this large bird land around 65 feet from me. Focused the Canon 6Dii wth the Canon L 100-400 Vii and a Canon L TC 1.4 Viii. Expecting a crow was surprised to see the Coopers Hawk on the ground and feeding. I was using a tripod with remote shutter. All details will be with each photo. ALL C&C is welcome. The first photo was used to aid identification.

Very nice work Greg. It is great when they come to your blind. I'm with Donna here, it looks more like a member of the Buteo group (probably a Red-shouldered hawk) than an Accipiter. The important thing is you caught her in the act!

Thank you, Chuck. I always recommend to friends that they need to be ready at what they are doing (photography, hunting, fishing, etc.) to take advantage of lucky happenings. I was set up in my blind to take photos of my backyard feathered friends when the hawk flew in and it was easy to change from little subjects up close to large subjects at a distance. I hope I was able to get my thoughts down into words on a web site.

Thanks, Phil, for your comments. Can you tell me what the difference is between the two? In my reference books there is nothing that tells me nothing that would make me think of one hawk over the other. I always attempt to ID birds and some insects or ask for help when I capture something new and I am just wondering what I missed.

Phil, thank you again for stopping by and I will do furture investigating myself to maybe see a difference between the two.
