Here's a bird from my P510 taken earlier through my window at 1600mm so inc digital and hand held...also would be good if others could post some bird shot's to compare...if the o.p. want's speed then it's the Fz150/Fz200....if it's max zoom either would produce good results.

I clicked the download & WOW, that is very impressive. Unless ,of course you spent a lot of time in PS. or Lightroom? Our local Walmart had one but they didn't even bother to put in a battery so I couldn't check it out in store. The cheapos.

Yup. I dealt with that when one battery said low and I had to take3 it off and put on another one which was dead to, even though it had been charged. It was during a fireworks show.

Thanks very much for the comment...P.S + L.R are too complicated and time consuming for me...so it's just simple basic skills when i do any post process....not that the nikon needs much help.....it's lens is excellent through the range with no distortion that i've noticed at the wide end and the keep rate is very high....most consistent camera i've owned.

Panasonic is coming out w/a new super zoom or bridge camera. It's the FZ200 and will be released in the fall. It's 24x and maintains a constant 2.8 lens even at maximum zoom. IQ is amazing even at full zoom.

No matter what you buy, go to www.shortcourses.com and find a great reference book at a modest price.

Have long have you had the batteries? Canon, or aftermarket?
I have not had that problem with the ones I got. I got 4 spares plus an extra charger, batteries ended up less than $8/ea. They all hold good charges, have not had a problem with them going down while in storage. I just make sure that I charge up the dead ones as soon as I get home, and make sure I change them as soon as the camera indicates "LOW batt"

For years I have been using a DSLR for wild bird and landscape photography but I am tired of lugging around the gear and am considerng a Superzoom. Which of these would you recommend, a Panasonic FZ150, a Canon SX40 or a Nikon p150?

Thanks for your help.

Ok, now that I've read the entire thread I'll add my 2 cents' worth: I'm generally a Canonista but tried the Nikon P510 and loved, loved, loved it. I had to return it because of the restrictive video record length of only 29 min. (I really need the video capability!) but that was the only downside. The stereo sound quality was much better than on the Canon also. I've had the Canon SX30 for a couple years but won't consider upgrading to the SX40 now that I've been spoiled by the Nikon's 42X zoom, lighter weight, much better button layout, easy-to-grip and hold surfaces, faster shot to shot time, and most importantly, image quality. Low light performance was very good also but for me the more important capacity is the macro. The P510 won hands down. Consider carefully what you'll be shooting with the camera and buy one from a store that has an easy return policy. That always works for me! :-)

I heard somewhere that the restriction on video record length is to avoid the camera being classified as a video recorder (and being taxes as one) at the USA Customs.

Is it true?

I still stand by my choice of the SX40!! Excellent low light capability, especially hand holding, AWESOME digital zoom added to the 35x!!
Fill the frame with views of the moon, even cutting off parts because full extension makes the moon too big... have to back it off a bit!! And the fully articulated screen eliminates glare in all situations that I have come up against!!

Does the Canon SX40 have a true diaphragm? The Fujifilm Finepix S-series cameras have a ND filter, and I suspect there's others that have that too.

Yes I am biased for the FZ150 or 200 but I would also go Canon SX40 in a heartbeat.

All camera reviews are here and are gathered from everywhere....Athough it's the latest out...looks like the Nikon is doing well with a score rating of 9.6!!!
