I use it only during storage in my pack. If the camera is out to use, the case is in the pack. It is way too bulky to hang from the camera strap, and gets in the way. Also, not conducive to quick draw for shots on the go.

Not unless they make something a lot easier and quicker than the ones I tried and never used again in the 70's, real pain in the rear.

I purchased a refurbed Canon SX520HS camera from the Canon USA website. It came with a sort of fitted case. The case is fabric, not leather. Works OK for protecting the camera. However, I hardly ever use it. Actually when I put the camera in the case for this photo it is about the only time I have ever put it in the case.

I did have a leather fitted case that came with my original SLR, an Exakta VXIIA. I only used the bottom portion of the case, left the top off.

The camera is inside. You can tell from the straps sticking out.

An informal poll. How many of you Hogs out there use a Case or Cover that is fitted for your camera and lens only, when carrying just the camera and lens on a on a neck or over the shoulder strap. I'm not talking about a bag or pack but just the fitted case that will go over a camera and lens only. Thoughts and comments please.

Since I started this conversation I thought I should add my own thoughts. When one considers that at any given time we could easily be carrying around camera and lens worth a couple of thousand, the protection of a case would outweigh the inconvenience. Especially if you're transiting from one photo opportunity to another. Or if you're in a situation where the environment would not be kind to your equipment for prolonged exposure. So here is my current collection of cases for my gear.

Left to right, CF-DC2 case for my Nikon D5100, case for Minolta 9xi SLR, case for Minolta 3xi, cases for the Minolta's where throw ins at the time I acquired them. Case for the Nikon I picked up when attending a nephews outdoor graduation just in case. I've a pretty decent investment in my gear so I'll take protection over inconvenience most times.

We are in total agreement -- And that's why I chose & have been using the Lens Coat Body Bag on my cameras (5D2 & 5Ds) for these last 10 yrs -- The Body Bag is specifically designed for specific cameras (all the major brands included) it's not a one fit covers all -- It is extremely well made lightweight & highly portable with a snap tab that allows for its storage on the Camera strap -- It also comes in a verity of colors including various camouflage -- Hate to admit it but I have more than once dropped my cameras -- The Lens Coat product has protected & saved my cameras from long expensive stays at the Canon repare facilities --- The bags run for about $27.00 to $30.00
