An informal poll. How many of you Hogs out there use a Case or Cover that is fitted for your camera and lens only, when carrying just the camera and lens on a on a neck or over the shoulder strap. I'm not talking about a bag or pack but just the fitted case that will go over a camera and lens only. Thoughts and comments please.

They used to come with the camera when you bought it as an included accessory.
They were known as
"Never Ready Case's"

I don't even put a lens cap on my "walk-about" lens

Nope, never used one. Never felt the need for one. Seems to be more of an encumbrence than anything.

Don't think they would work any more - with most of the controls on the back of the camera. Even in the old days you would have to remove it to reload film unless it had a big flap on the back. And as ELNikkor said - I usually leave my lens cover in the car unless I am taking more than on lens.

I have a very nice fitted case for my Df. The bottom half is always on the camera; the top half not so much.

Occasionally. Especially when I'm hiking through rough terrain and I don't want a camera bag to slow me down.

Have for the last 10yrs used a Lens Coat Body Bag 1st for my 5D2 & now for the 5Ds -- Made from a soft very close fitting neoprene -- Have waterproofed the bags via spray -- Find them very useful -- The body bag can accommodate the camera & a lens -- the Largest lens that will fit with mine is the 135mm 2.0 -- though I generally carry the much smaller 35mm lens

Haven't used one in ages. Do they even come with cameras today? My old film SLR cameras from the 70's & 80's came with camera/lens covers. Most rotted and have been discarded. I have a couple older cameras with real leather case / covers but I really have not used any of them for ages. In the case of DSLRs, how would you use such a thing as the back of the camera would be covered as well.

You mean the thing that came standard with every decent camera a few decades ago? I don't think I have any left, but I wish I did. Camera makers found a way to save a lot of money by excluding them from the sale.

I used one for years and still have a couple of old ones but I don't think there would be anyway to make one with all the things (buttons and controls) you need to access on current cameras and have a view of the LV screen.

I have an OpTec cover and use it, even when I drop the camera in a back pack, helps keep if from damage
