I have been with SmugMug since December 2006. I like the ulimited storage model offered. Prime reason I went with them. Are they perfect? Nope. As a pro business account holder, I pay a slightly reduced annual fee, because I am grandfathered from the legacy Smug. I appreciate the control I have over my site. As little or as much as I want. I have learned a great deal about design and code because of my web page. Like life, your return is equal to the effort applied. There are things I do not appreciate about SmugMug, but they are minimal in my opinion.

Thanks Tom - I am anxious to see what they will do with the acquired Flickr accounts. I hope we get some new functionality but I am afraid there will be degraded services to entice us to move to the SmugMug model.

I use Flickr in conjunction with LR. Wonder if Smug is going to continue this - or LR will have to modify something to maintain a like feature ... or ...

Maybe, Maybe not. My experience with the company tends to be positive. If you check some of their marketing, they claim to be photographers looking out for the interests of photographers. My experience with the company has shown that. Very speedy customer support, etc. etc etc. As for Flickr, I too will be watching with interest. Maybe not on the same scale, but I compare this to the Adobe and LightRoom experience. I hope not....

I like flickr, and don't see any reason to go from it just because smugmug bought them. If it changes for the worse then we'll see.
This is my view, too. Of course, I am not in the business of selling anything--my photos there are just for my own and others' enjoyment.

Same here, I do it only for the love of photography. I'm not knocking those who make money at it, good for them.

I use both Flickr and Smugmug. Most of my select photos are on both sites. My Smugmug account is linked to a domain while Flickr account is not. Therefore, I will probably drop Flickr and continue with Smugmug.

I know smugmug charges a fee but is it a sliding fee based on how much storage you use or just a flat annual fee?

Since their acquisition of flicker just happened I don’t have an answer to that. But from the emails I’ve been getting it looks like they want to incorporate video files using Flicker.

Thanks - I wonder if the free service available from Flickr will still be offered now that SmugMug has acquired it and if any of the features in SmugMug will be available in a free, former Flickr account.
Work watching.
