I doubt that you could find it as Google went to "Google Photos" over Picasa awhile back. There might be downloadable files out there somewhere though. I still have it on an older computer but Google hasn't updated the program in years and thus it likely has lots of security vulnerabilities...

Have used Picas for a number of years (But I also have P'shop) Dare I ask how much it cost you to Download, and use Picasa?

Picasa 3 can still be downloaded from Google and is free of charge. It is no longer updated by Google though and so is getting older and out of date, etc. It does a much better job with jpegs than it does with RAW although if you upload raw files into it, it will process them, although not nearly as well as many other processors. It is also extremely slow with a raw file. Someone in this thread commented that the program actually converts the raw file uploaded into a jpeg prior to editing. I do not know if that is correct, my file extension remains unchanged at .cr2 until I "save", which you should avoid as jpegs as it usually degrades the file, at which time it changes the extension to .cr2.jpeg. I have many files edited through Picasa which I used for years. Picasa is quite limited as a PP alternative and while I still have it for viewing previously edited files, I would not recommend it for ongoing use nor would I recommend it to a newbie, as there are better alternatives, both free and low cost to choose from. For example Adobe Elements 18, a simplified version of Photoshop with Luminar plug in looks like a pretty good combo for a non professional who does not want to go the subscription way of Adobe. Elements has decent cataloging and decent editing, Luminar has other options Elements does not have. Not as good as Lightroom and Photoshop certainly, but will likely do nicely for most non professionals and with a smaller learning curve to boot.

Hi all,
I have just downloaded Picasa 3 to my computer. Upon uploading a set of pictures, I noticed that they look washed out and the color isn't right. I have tried messing with just about everything picasa has to offer, and I can't get them to look anything like they do when viewing them in my camera. They were all shot in RAW, could it be that Picasa 3 doesn't process RAW photos? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Eric.

Hi Eric, I still use Picasa 3 on occasion, and it does not process RAW files. Picasa 3 is still available for free for others who are interested.

You may be correct Scott. I saw a link directly from Google a few days ago, went back to it after reading your post and attempted to open. The link was no longer workable.

EDIT: The comment I made as to direct download directly from Google may not be correct. I just attempted to open the link and it is no longer a viable link. As I commented above, I would not advise anyone not already using Picasa to begin now. It's simply a has been. Used to be ok for photo sharing and simply editing of jpegs, but there are much better options at this time.

Your correction is correct As rizibat8 already pointed out on page 1 of this thread, a third-party download may have malware, or at the very least, a bunch of undesirable add-ons. Folks who don't already have Picasa should research the many equal or better current alternatives.

I had been using Picasa3 for years, I have it on my new computer too. it does process like it's regular way on my Nikon NEF raw file to small JEPG.

The raw files of newer cameras are not editable. That was the point of the OP. Mostly they look highly washed out/gray. There are two examples in other main forum topics posted two weeks ago; the links are below. I experienced the same with my Canon SX50 (Canon T3i raw files looked more normal). Picasa has not been updated for four years.

Here is one of the comparisons from a topic posted April 21:

In the below topic, the image on top is Picasa view of a raw file:

I took this image with my Nikon Df RAW, and opened it in Picasa, and treated it a little then save as jpeg.(1th image) I copied this jpeg file and did some process in Photo shop Element 10 (2nd image) I found not much a difference but the color tone. The picture was taken with flash.

I use to use Picasa to view my files but Find Faststone Image Viewer more better and shows RAW and a little bit of editing. Best of all. Free!!!!!!!!! I also use it as the Default to open all my JPG and Raw files. A bit about it here.

Was your camera made more than three years ago?

Did you see the links I provided? My Canon T3i raw looked like your NEF raw in Picasa, but raw from my Canon sx50 and mirrorless Panasonic G7 looked like the highly washed out examples in those topics.

My Df came out the market in late 2013.

So just to beat the horse that died back on page 1, lol: Google stopped updating Picasa several years ago. For those with cameras that came out prior, the software can be adequate for raw editing, but it's still awfully limited.

Of course strong proponents of Photoshop probably feel that way about all other software, whereas I, a happy user of PS Elements for several years now, think that software is A-OK
