Thank you. I am not concerned at all with weight, just one lens that will shoot flowers Landscapes and moving dogs. A lot to ask for. My 3 dogs are all from different litters. 2 different breeders. They are our loves and wonderful.

I have the 24-105mm with my 5D MK IV... it's a great walk around lens for the camera. Takes very sharp pictures.

The 24-105 was my all-time favorite walk around lens.

I have not tested the 24-70 but I also find the 24-105 that came with my Canon 6D to be perfect for most situations, including landscapes and urban shots on vacations of all types. It's gotten to the point that if I don't have an expectation of coming across wildlife, I often leave the 70-200 f/4 at home.

Thank you. I do think that will be my choice.

I have the 24-70 2.8 II and the 24-105 4 II. I use the 24-70 mostly for indoor sports or where I need the extra f stop. For general use I have the 24-105 on most of the time as I like the extra length and the IS. It is not quite as sharp as the 24-70 or my 16-35, but it is still extremely sharp and fast focusing. Since the 24-70 that you inquired about is an f4, you are not going to gain anything by going with it instead of the 24-105, but you will gain some length with the 24-105.

Thank you. The 24-105 is the lens I am going to go with since the 24-70 2.8 is around $1,500.

You might want to take a look at the ThinkTank Skin pouch and belt system for carrying and storing your gear. It is a nice modular system and you can buy a set or piece by piece. Well made and very well designed. https://www.thinktankphoto.com/collections/skin-pouches. Good alternative to a back pack in my view...

Best,

I just purchased a Canon 5D Markiii. I have used a Canon 70D and have all the Efs lenses I need. I now need a lens for my Markiii. I have the Canon 70-200 2.8 L is.
I am debating between the Canon 24-70 4L is, or the 24-105 4Lis. I need a lens to take hiking. ???? Close ups of flowers, landscape and my dogs.
Suggestions please?

I would be doing the Sigma 24-105 Art - The Canon is OK but the Sigma is cheaper (most places) and sharper than the Canon. See the Tony Northrup's video on you tube. I think the Sigma may be slightly heavier.

Zazzy, the Mark III is a great camera. The 24 - 105 would be the better choice. It would give you coverage in an area you do not now have. At the same time would allow a little more reach without changing lenses. You might want to add a nifty 50 lens as well. If you get the 1.8 version it will only run you about $125.00. To get the 1.4 or 1.2 the cost jumps dramatically. The 1.8 gives great bike for close ups. Let us know what you decide.

Of the two, the 24-70mm f/4L IS is considerably smaller and lighter, MUCH closer focusing and has superior image quality. It's also less expensive than the 24-105L II.

First, how in the world did you get three dogs to pose like that? Secondly, I just ordered my first L lens, the 24-70mm F/4 from mpd.com. It's a used lens classed as "like new". Most reviews tend to favor this lens over the 24-105mm. You might consider selling or trading your 70d and ef-s lenses and put the money toward a battery grip and other L glass.

Why not get the 24-105? It's got a little more versatility with the broader focal range. They are both f/4 lenses.
