What is the consensus on neck vesus wrist straps? Also any suggestions on comfortable neck straps? I will be in Europe for a month and am not sure which would be better. Thanks.

Depends on the camera and lens. I favor a theft proof neck strap.

I use both - when I'm shooting street scenes or activities where I'm using my camera often, I use the wrist strap - when I'm hiking/walking to various sites to shoot from, I use a sling strap -
I have the Optech Utility Strap and the Wrist Strap
They are light enough that it is easy to carry both and with the quick connects, it is easy to change them out...

In a trip and fall, the camera is in greater danger to damage if attached to your wrist... if you happen to use your right hand to break the fall (usually not much time to think!), the camera and lens obviously will slam on the ground with full force. Of course a camera around your neck can get damaged in a trip and fall, but there is a far lesser chance that the camera will take most of the impact when you hit the ground.

For this reason, I only use wrist straps with inexpensive pocket cameras; everything else goes on a neck strap where I can better protect it from mishaps. Safety first - for me AND my camera.

My question would be, How long would you be carrying the camera around every day? The wristband strap is ok to use, but you still have your camera in your hand all that time. Having a strap over the shoulders all day is less tiresome and it is still easy to access your camera for those surprise shots. I would get a strap that is easy to remove from the camera. Peak Design has some very nice straps for over the shoulder. The only problem I have had with mine is the slots for the quick release tabs are smaller than my fingers and it can be hard to depress the button correctly to remove the anchor tab. But it is very comfortable and the quick slide makes it easy to adjust.

I've Optech straps on both my SLR's and my DSLR's.

I use peak design slide straps which are comfortable and easy to remove if i wanted to add a wrist strap. However i find that the peak design wrist strap not very workable for me as it restricts movement of certain fingers, so try before you buy.

I use a neck strap exclusively, but only because I have been doing that for 45 years and am simply used to it. Absolutely no other reason.

I use OP/Tech on my DSLRs and for "some" crowded tourist areas of Europe I reccommend OP/Tech "Urban Sling" https://www.adorama.com/otuslbk.html

I always used a cross chest strap (Sun Sniper) for my heavy full frame Nikon, but tried a neck strap with my lighter Fuji X-T2. After one day of walking around a European city I was ready for a chiropractor for my sore neck. I switched to a loose wrist strap and was able to carry the Fuji in my hand all day, but it got tiring. I went back to using the Sun Sniper.

Check out the vest, like Cotton Carrier. Accessible, no weight on your neck, well protected if a fall. Put a wrist strap on your camera for when you want to shoot.

Here's an improvement to pretty much any neck strap; add a 'clip and swivel' that you can buy at any store that sell fishing supplies. It allows any twists in the strap to 'easily' be straightened out.

Hi Hennes8

I use the Black Rapid sling strap. And depending on the lens, I'll usually pair that with a ThinkTank holster on a belt on tyhe same side. Just gives me the option of shifting the weight , and/or protecting the camera a bit more. And I always attach the sling to the strap lugs with some Optech links, not the tripod mount
