The 18-300 is a great versatile lens ... I call it the street sweeper. You can do a lot with it. Not the first choice for wildlife, but everything else for sure. If you happen to be stopping in Haines, I do offer private tours and I have a variety of upper-end Nikon lenses I make available to guests who shoot with Nikons! (Good on you.) Why did you buy equipment and, have no clue what to use?

Perhaps you need a course in reading comprehension. The OP is asking which lens to buy.

Please only post in this forum if you have a positive contribution to photography. Take your trolling elsewhere.

I’ve added you to my ignore list.

Do not follow this advice. You've got a great camera and the 18-300 is a great lens. I lead Photo tours off the cruise ships in Juneau. We serve every ship and every cruise line. Many times my guests have mentioned, casually, halfway through the tour, that they left there "good" camera at home, and are carrying a newly purchased point and shoot or bridge camera because they wanted to a go light. Ahhhh...this drives me crazy. Alaska is not light! Bring what you know best and know to use. You don't have to carry everything everywhere. Plan your day. Think about what you are doing, but don't leave your great gear at home or on the ship. If you have to change lenses a few times during the day, so what? That's what photographers do. It's quick and easy, we all do it all the time, and there are lots of techniques to keep out the dust and rain. Bring that D7500, bring the 18-300, bring something a little wider if you have it and maybe something fast for all those shows the cruise ships have, and have a great time. When you're in Juneau, say hi if you see me on the docks.

Leave it all at home, seriously, I took a Sony HX90V that has a Zeiss T* 24-750 MM lens and got all the shots I needed. It even has a built in eye level finder that you can use in place of the back screen. And that back screen rotates all the way up for selfies. Trust me, travel right travel lite. Your spouse will also like it as you hold their hand instead of having to lug everything around. I use a belt loop to keep my camera in. Had a great time and got outstanding images. You will not regret it.
Here you go, and ebay has many used ones and you can get new from B&H. There is still time, go for it.

Ps: You might try booking your whale watch in Juneau with Harv and Marv. They have a six passenger boat which is MUCH better for photography than the big ones the cruise lines use. They pick you up at the dock and take you back via the glacier.

I have a Nikon D7500 and I want to take one lens on this cruise. I’m thinking Nikon 18-300mm or Tamron 18-400. Has anyone used either of these on an Alaskan Cruise. Either one should work, I’m just thinking Nikon with Nikon Lens?? Thoughts?

Me too!! I have a Canon though but, it's good to know the lens length I should go with for my camera! I don't want to be caught changing a lens when the wildlife decides to show itself!

Which ship? I'll be with a party of 5 on the NCL Bliss leaving on 6/16. Can't wait!
