The reign of the DSLR is almost over...
Actually, only reality is the only “thing” without lag. By the time a photon leaves a subject, enters the human eye, travels & converts signal to the brain & by the time we perceive the subject it’s already in the past. Humans are way behind already. Add to the EVF lag we may as well be in yesterday.
I really like the stop motion capabilities of the Sony a7iii. But, that won’t pay the bills.
I wonder about battery life on smaller mirrorless boxes. A few hundred shots as the camera is smaller. The a7iii? Anyone know?
The D850 is my next updrade. May just wait ‘til the D860 though. No hurry.

These definitions are inventive .... but preachy and really dumb!

Critic, n. A person who boasts himself hard to please because nobody tries to please him.
My EVF lag is less than the eye to hand reaction time to press the shutter. lol
I can speak to the battery issue only with Sony cameras I have owned. The smaller Fw50 batteries used in the A6000 series (A6000.A6300.A6500) and also used on earlier fullframe A7,A7S, A7II,A7Sii and A7rII was a weak point as they lasted only about 300+ shots. However Sony has listened to amateurs and pros alike who loved their cameras but hated the battery life. So Sony came out with new DPFZ battery for the A9,A7RIII and A7III. this new Z batteries is rated at 22800mah, comparable to the best batteries from the top DSLRs.
All camera batteries are tested to CIPA standards. The current CIPA battery testing formula tends to favor how batteries are used in DSLRs, not how they are used in mirrorless cameras. Sony has chosen to quote the CIPA rating (which is conservative) and says the A9 and A7rIII will get over 600 shots per charge and the A7III will get over 710 shots per charge (the most of any mirrorless camera tested to this point). Actual users of the new Z-battery report that they get anywhere from 1000-2000 shots per charge and up to two hours of 4k video recording per charge. This now compares most favorable with the best of DSLR batteries. Cheers
My bills are quite nicely paid with my use of my A6500, A7RIII and now my A7III. Thanks.

You have to use the gear to understand that pros are not being handicapped when shooting sports with mirrorless cameras.
I'm not being handicapped now, so we're back to the question that you haven't answered: what is the impetus for me to switch?
This is starting to remind me of the old "gear doesn't matter, so switch your gear" mentality that is the basis of all the "I shot this with an iPhone" articles.
TheDman this thread is not about why you might want to switch systems. That has been amply covered in other UHH threads. Find those and read them, or look at numerous good YouTube video discussions on this very topic. Got to run out and use my laggy EVF on another professional job. Catch you folks later. Cheers !

Actually, it's about why everyone will soon switch systems. I'm part of everyone.

Doesn’t matter what you use, but why spread misinformation? There is no lag in evfs today.
Well technically there is, but it is so small it is irrelevant.
[quote=repleo]The war of the viewfinders may be coming to an end. Interesting article on DP Review. Some quotes: -
"This year we sat down with leaders from (in alphabetical order) Canon, Fujifilm, Olympus, Panasonic, Ricoh, Sigma, Sony and Tamron to learn more about how they see the market, and to get an indication of what might be coming down the road.
Full-frame mirrorless will become the norm, and it will happen pretty soon
Will if be affordable for NONE PRO'S????

It matters to me.
Well that’s the info I’ve got. Regardless I’m not interested. I’m happy you’re good with electronic viewfinders. Really.
I meant, that it doesn’t matter to the rest of us. No one really cares.
That is the info you’ve got? What is that mean? Are you saying that you haven’t personally looked into an evf and experienced what you claimed?

You can only see the real world through a DSLR eyepiece. If they go all LCD than you are seeing a JPG representation of world around you. LCD's are for video not photography. If they do this and stop making DSLRs than my old DSLRS will be priceless. And you thing DSLR are expensive now. Just wait and see what happens. If you want to see a video monitor eyepiece then buy a damn video camera!
Another ridiculous comment from a clueless luddite!

Nobody is necessarily spreading misinformation. The problem is blanket statements made on both sides of any argument. I'm sure there are folks "today" using cameras that suffer from viewfinder lag. Some are probably still being sold. I'd even guess that there are some that have little to no viewfinder lag.
Your statement as well as the one you were responding to, being non-specific, are both 'misguided'.

Read the poster’s reply to me.
Seems like a lot of people are posting about mirrorless cameras without any personal experience.
Show me “one” FF mirrorless that you have tried that has a lag.

Since you speak for all, and no one else cares - kinda ends the conversation, eh?
My thoughts exactly, Steve. Last year, I switched to mirrorless and switched back within 3 months. I wish I could create my own camera...the insides of a Nikon D850 and the external controls of a Fujifilm X-T2!
