Use what you like, I have said that multiple times in this discussion. But don't spread falsehoods, not borne out by your own personal experience using mirrorless cameras.

Which falsehood have I spread?

EVF lag with fast movement, that is what you quoted.

Believe what you want TheDman, I will continue to use my NO-LAG EVF and make great professional photos. Post ANY review for the A9, A7RIII or newest A7III and show us all here in UHH any that talk about and show any EVF lag. Prove this point, that is all I ask TheDman. Cheers

OutdoorPhotographer; "We usually prefer optical viewfinders—they’re typically brighter and clearer than electronic viewfinders (EVFs). But as the quality of EVFs improve, we’re coming around to their advantages. For starters, you can manually adjust the brightness of the a7R III’s 0.5-inch EVF up to five steps from -2 to +2 EV or allow it to adjust automatically for ambient conditions. The high-resolution, 3.69-megapixel EVF refreshes at rates of up to 100 fps, which is fast enough that we didn’t even think about the fact that we were looking through an EVF......More compelling for us are the advantages that EVFs offer: information overlays like focus-peaking when focusing manually, level display, exposure settings and histogram data are all incredibly useful, providing the information you need to adjust your composition and controls without taking your eye off the scene."

And again, how is his experience false and yours true?

TheDman did you read the OutdoorPhotographers post above? Modern EVFs don't have these issues anymore that you quoted. You need to test them for yourself and maybe then you will believe what we are saying. Cheers

They didn't say they tested vigorous panning. And they refresh at 100fps. Know how often the mirror refreshes? Infinite fps.

Oh whatever TheDman. You are missing the point here. But that is ok. I never mentioned "vigorous panning" Cheers

Well I'm mentioning vigorous panning. It's something you do when shooting horse racing.

TheDman when you shoot with a mirror in DSLRs you get mirror blackout in both single and multiple shots. Top mirrorless cameras don't have this issue and their EVFs like in the A9, A7RIII and A7III can give you multiple shot shooting without viewfinder blackouts. No DSLR with optical viewfinder can do that. The mirrorless EVF can be a real advantage when tracking athletes in shooting sports, like in panning when shooting horse racing, or following any moving subject like a bird in flight. Hands down another clear advantage of EVFs in top mirrorless cameras. Cheers.

"Apparently this EVF does 120fps, but there is a noticeable lag when moving the camera vigorously. In sports where vigorous camera movement is a must, this is a deal breaker. Had it came equipped with an optical viewfinder, I think this camera is good enough to challenge the likes of Canon and Nikon. The rep told me that they are working on a 240fps EVF."

Actual reality is the only “thing” with no lag. That excludes humans. By the time photons hit our eyes, transmits & converts to a signal the brain understands to the time we perceive what we see, there is already a lag. Humans reality is already in the past...

Even if the lag reaches 0.000, you know what else has a lag of 0.000? Actual reality. So I'm still lacking the "holy cow, I have to have that" feature that is going to make me sell all my gear and switch.

And I can show you more testimonials from other top pros that rave about the A9 and its EVF and how it performed at venues like the Winter Olympics, with examples. Scroll back here in this discussion and find my Winter Olympics , US Open etc. links to use of the A9. Cheers

That's great, but I don't care if there's blackout when I click, I care that the image is perfect leading up to the click.

You have to use the gear to understand that pros are not being handicapped when shooting sports with mirrorless cameras. I will never convince you that top sport pros are using this technology successfully in the most stressful working conditions. Even showing you their resulting images won't convince you. So I say goodbye to this part of the discussion with you TheDman . Lets both move on to the main discussion of the OP here, the possible end to the reign of the DSLR. But if you still wish to continue on this particular EVF issue, you are always free to do so. EVFs are great now in the top mirrorless cameras, and I am sure they will get even better in the future. For me and many others after using our present EVFs we would never want to go back to optical viewfinders again. Cheers
