The reign of the DSLR is almost over...
The war of the viewfinders may be coming to an end. Interesting article on DP Review. Some quotes: -
"This year we sat down with leaders from (in alphabetical order) Canon, Fujifilm, Olympus, Panasonic, Ricoh, Sigma, Sony and Tamron to learn more about how they see the market, and to get an indication of what might be coming down the road.
Full-frame mirrorless will become the norm, and it will happen pretty soon
This year, almost all the executives we spoke to seemed to agree on one thing: full-frame mirrorless will become the norm, and it will happen pretty soon.
..... One is the mirrorless market: new, energetic, and increasingly packed with advanced autofocus systems and high-end video features. And the other is the DSLR market, dominated by increasingly non-essential iterative updates at the low-end..... "
Nikon seems to be conspicuous by its absence.

Oh no, are my 5DIV, 5DSr, 80D, 7DII, 6D, D500 and D7200 going to suddenly stop working?!
Bargains to be had on good used lenses!
Left my Heavy DSLR home on my China trip, instead took two light mirrorless 4/3 cameras along. Never gonna happen again.
Rollie kinda left the building though... mine still work!
Tony Northrup had a video on this DSLR demise last year. I watched it. By the time this happens, I'll be too old to care. And my Gear will be sold or given away.
At eighty two I do not care. My Canons I believe will out last me.
I think it doesn't really matter. So what if the camera you buy in 3 years has a mirror or not? Does it do what you need? Does it have the focus capabilities you need, the quick access buttons you want, does it fit your hand (ergonomics). In short, does it do what you need and expect? If so, call it whatever you like, it'll be the camera you use. technology changes and what's inside the body of the camera really doesn't matter to me if it does its job.
Now, if you tell me the viewfinder will go away (be it electronic or optical), then I'll say "no way". If you tell me all the cameras will be little things that are hard to hold, I'll say "no way"
I have used a lot of different cameras is my time as a photographer. And the Death Knell for different kinds of cameras has been rung many times. But, there are always someone hanging on to the old way of doing things. I don't see it happening. in my humble opinion.

Well, It looks like, if SLR/DSLR cameras, including these new models, are going the way of the dodo, I might as well throw away my almost 60 year old POS Leica. Oh, but wait a sec. It still takes good, by my standards, pictures. Come to think of it, so does my pre-1920 Kodak Autographic folder, when I can keep the pinholes patched and can find film for it. Maybe my D7100 isn't ready for the junk pile yet.
As long as my lenses still mount to a camera body and there is electricity to charge the batteries then the forecast of impending doom and gloom is irrelevant.
Will the DSLR LENS we use today work with the mirrorless camera of tomorrow?
