I have a number of lenses that are Minolta A mount and Sigma in Minolta A mount. I am thinking about buying an A7 to use these lenses. Would the adapter allows for AF and auto exposure with these lenses.?

Best thing too do is take a lenes to a camera store and try it on the Sony A7 and see how it works for you, then you can judge for yourself how the lenses will perform.

Depends on the adapter you buy. You can get $10 adapter on Ebay that will not allow auto anything with those lenses or you can check Sony adapters. Some of them will probably allow auto everything, but at a price.

Also, the Sony a7 is a E mount mirrorless camera. The lenses you described are for a Sony A mount body a99m2 or a77m2. 99m2 full frame and the 77m2 3/4 full frame camera mirror mount cameras. The Minola and Sony lenses are APS-C configuration and will not work on a full frame camera like the Sony a7 or a99m2, but will work on the a77m2 fine. This is what you have to decide upon how are the lenses going to work on my new camera and will it give me the full picture that the camera can take?

ONLY if you get a Sony LA-EA 4 adapter, then yes.

I did say about the adapter didn't I? All my lenses are full frame lenses and they are Minolta A mount and not Sony.

The a7 has the same E-mount as the a7rii. There are Metabones, FotoDiox and other brands Adapters that may work. But, I remember a Sony E-mount owner on this forum mentioning Brian Smith. The LAEA3 and LAEA4 Adapters are more expensive options too. http://briansmith.com/sony-a-mount-lens-sony-a7rii-guide/

There is NO SUCH THING as a Minolta A mount CROP sensor lens. Minolta never made crop sensor DSLR's so they never had to make crop sensor lenses. Spreading false information does NOBODY any good at all, much less your credibility for doing so.

Minolta did make crop sensor DSLR's the Maxxum 5D and 7D but I don't think they made any crop sensor lenses.

The Minolta A-mount was marketed as "Maxxum." Now known today as Sony A-mount, since Sony bought out Minolta in 2006. Some Minolta older SLR film camera mounts were MC/MD types.

I am a long time sony shooter. I have followed their advancements. I an committed to the a-mount. I went from the a-200 to the a-850, and stopped with the slt a-77. the idea of switching to the e-mount makes no sense to me . all my needs are being met. i'm 79 and can make it with what I have for the next 25 years.

Those first two cameras you mentioned are older DSLRs, not mirrorless though. Sony's biggest investment today has been full frame E-mount mirrorless cameras. The a7r3 and a7iii cameras will be big sellers. But, Sony does have some excellent, expensive A-mount autofocus lenses, that superseded the Minolta Brand.

Sony makes an adapter that might allow you to do that.

Yes with this adapter you will have autofocus ,no problem. Sony wants A-Mount lens owners to be able to use their lenses even on their E-Mount cameras.

"The black A-Mount to E-Mount Lens Adapter from Sony enables you to attach virtually any A-mount lens to an Alpha E-mount full-frame digital camera body. Teleconverters and Minolta XI lenses are not compatible. The adapter features a built-in AF motor, aperture-drive mechanism and Translucent Mirror Technology to enable full-time, continuous, TTL phase-detection autofocus. AF is supported with all A-mount lenses except STF models, and auto exposure will be enabled with all compatible lenses."

The sony LA-EA4 adpator will AF and auto expose. YOu make all the camera adjustments you need to and the adaptor will connect the lens and camera to work together. There may be some loss of focus points but on flexible spot with continual focus you can tell the camera/lens there to focus in the frame.
