I joined this site for positive critiques on my photos. I am a beginner tho I have some knowledge about taking photos. I haven't been a member for that long but long enough to realize this site isn't for me. All it takes is a few negative remarks for me to leave this site. I don't have a problem with someone critiquing my photos to help me make them better but to tell me I need to buy a terminology book isn't cool.
So, to those who gave me positive remarks I really do appreciate the time you gave me....

If you’re looking for only positive critiques as you say, then you’re not looking for a critique (which you specifically requested), you’re looking for unqualified praise, which will do nothing to make you a better photographer - a critique may encompass both positive and negative appraisals as well as suggestions. If all you want is occasional praise, then post in the photo section and don’t request a critique. i’ve Read all the responses to your posts, and you have been treated courteously and respectfully in every response. Good luck in the future...

I'm terribly sorry if I'm misreading your post, but is this a goodbye note?

Because she hasn’t replied since initial post I’d take it that way. Time to unwatch.

Take a look at the posts in his threads ,there's absolutely no harsh criticism in them. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about.

Took a look at the threads. There was no harsh comment. All comments are correct in my opinions. If the OP is not happy with that then the OP should ask for praises only.

If your thin skin causes to to leave rather than learn, so be it. If you want to LEARN, then read the comments and see if they help your images before tucking tail and running.

You will get "positive" remarks in three circumstances.

1. Your work is perfect.
2. In the form of platitudes which unfortunately are offered all too often on this and other sites. These kinds of remarks are the least constructive.
3. Mixed in with negative commentary, as part of honest, insightful critique. This is rare on this site, but there are some who do try.

What you need is #3, but what I am hearing is that #2 is what you are looking for.

However, when you start off a rant with a statement that boils down to "I want something for nothing (free critique), I want it on my terms (only positive thoughts), and since I am also getting negative words I am disappointed, so I am taking my marbles with me and going home!!!" - well I must say it does make you sound like you believe you are entitled to something.

You are not entitled to a thing.

Some of us have been on this forum and have yet to ask for a single thing - opting instead to share the wealth of their knowledge and experience, at no charge.

My suggestion is to find a mentor and tell him/her exactly what you expect, and pay him/her well. Then you can rest assured you will not be disappointed.

There are a lot of cretins on this site. But you can get some good advice as well.

There is an "ignore" function that can be used to keep people from bothering you. Don't be super sensitive; constructive criticism is what you want. If they can justify their comment on your photo, take it and consider it. If their comment is just snarky, just a short snide remark; put them on your ignore list and move on. They will only be able to respond badly once.

April Fool's Day? The OP only posted two photos and he got nothing but helpful comments or praise.

Absolutely. Can't figure out what he was upset about. He was treated with the utmost courtesy and respect, until this threat at least.

You should try to look at the OP's three previous threads and the posts in them. He was treated with the utmost respect by everyone, with absolutely no snarky comments by anyone. I honestly don't see how this person could have been treated better. If he/she is not happy with the way he was responded to here, he won't be happy anywhere.

I understand your experiednce. I've had my share of inappropriate comments having nothing to do with my photo posting, or were purposely nasty. This photo site has to provide a section called "The Attic" for members who want to post nasty, insulting, and hateful stuff that goes beyond a mere difference of opinion with another member's posting. Unfortunately, the "Admin" for this site has not been able to keep the site free of raunchy non-photography material except to use the Attic as a way to put.the problem under the rug.

I'm not familiar with your work or the comments. I will, however, point out that every field and subcategories therein have their own vocabulary. Having had a many decades long sales career covering almose every industry, I found the fastest way to understand a field of endeavor is to learn their unique vocabulary. It helps to understand the real experts who are fluent and smoke out the fakers who use terms improperly and incorrectly. While the suggestion might have seemed inappropriate and not helpful in an image critique, you may very well benefit from learning the lingo.

This is good training to learn to discern QUICKLY those to be ignored and avoided. It is more than a Forum Skill, it is a lifetime skill.

Stick around and learn from the top folks here--some who have commented above.
