I joined this site for positive critiques on my photos. I am a beginner tho I have some knowledge about taking photos. (have just gotten into manual mode) I don't have a lot of experience and have only taken a online class to me, . I haven't been a member for that long but long enough to realize this site isn't for me. All it takes is a few negative remarks for me to leave this site. I don't have a problem with someone critiquing my photos to help me make them better but to tell me I need to buy a terminology book isn't cool.
So, to those who gave me positive remarks I really do appreciate the time you gave me....

Unfortunately, a few on this site are socially challenged, and I am sure it has affected the overall membership in a negative manner.

I didn’t see anything nasty in the suggestion. It seems to me that when discussing photography, using the correct terminology would be a foundation for learning. Don’t you think so?

Definitely not a place for the overly sensitive. There are a small fraction of idiots and maladjusted people that feel a need to assert themselves here. You might want to find a moderated forum.

Don't be so "thin skined" ... hang out for awhile and see how it goes ... any site you go to has the few who have nothing good to say about anything or anybody but themselves ... you will quickly learn who posts good information and who does not ... if I see certain names on posts I just don't waste my time with them ... I, personnally, am willing to put up with the small number of a**holes because of the large number of great, friendly, informative members ...

Some time ago I posted that their are no stupid (serious) questions but there are vast numbers of stupid answers ... !

Sorry to see you go. There are a lot of good people on this forum. To bad the few assholes make it intolerable for some. Happy shooting.

If ALL you want is positive feedback, don't post images at all. "Critique" goes both ways and if your images are not that good them "positive" comments will be few. While I myself have never commented on, or even viewed any of your images, its apparent to me you don't want true critique, but only want false praise. If your thin skin causes to to leave rather than learn, so be it. If you want to LEARN, then read the comments and see if they help your images before tucking tail and running.
Just my opinion.

I find the spurious information forces me to think critically about a given discussion.

If your looking for formal gidence then your time would be better spent with the many wonderful books and youtube videos available.

But you need to mix it up with real people. This will strengthen your ideas. Most people have one goal in their dialog. Convince everyone that they are the gatekeeper of all knowlege worth knowing.

For all the nonsense there is not one day that goes by that I don't learn at least one thing.

Post some pictures and ask some questions and at least one person will make it worth your while.

If you want honest, intelligent and constructive critique of your photos post them in the Photo Critique Section. Those folks are really helpful.

If it is responses to your own posts that are disappointing, you can “Ignore” those members who are offensive. Just click on their name and add them to your “Ignore” list. Their comments will still show up on other posts where they have not been “Ignored”.

We have open membership that is we let good helpful people in but don't stop people with shortcoming that detract from the helpful group. Sorry you were hurt by them.
I think you should feel sorry for them as they can't do better as a person.
I have been attacked by them and the only thing i can say is that most of them are good spellers.

Go to meetup.com in your area. Search for photography, this is a good place to meet others involved in your interests.

I have read many posts that either are or border on rudeness. Water off a duck’s back. The web us littered with poor mannered folks. That said, I can say many on here have offered me help, guidance and a lot of patience with my ignorance. I’ve learned a great deal from numerous folks here & that has far outweighed my objection to the behavior of a few. Good luck, hope that’s food for thought.

I have not seen any of the photos and have not been involved. However, the purpose of "critique" should be in the effort of making the photography better or to help the photographer improve. This will require both positive and negative comments.

Unfortunately, I have seen way too much self aggrandizing "critique" or snide "critique" which is not helpful and does not fit (at least my) definition of "critique". Telling someone who has misused some specific nomenclature or does not understand a term to just go buy a book is not in the least helpful. There are a few here who will use the cover of "critique" to proclaim how smart they are. And that is a pity.

You really should learn the terminology, it would be most helpful.
Always remember that people will have their own opinion. Their opinions may not match your opinion because they think differently than you do.
