i followed instructions for tethering my camera but always reached a point where it just did what we used to call the "pinwheel of death." I am using what I believe is Sony's free software (playmemories). Please help.

Are you really interested in "tethering" or are you only trying to upload images from the Sony to a PC or phone?

Sorry. I'm just trying to download pictures without having to use chip.

Do you mean the memory card?(chip??) The images taken by the camera are stored on the memory card - they are not stored in the camera.

Yes I called the memory card the chip. One of the reasons I bought the camera is so I can get pictures through WiFi.

I understand. I'm sure it's in the manual. Is the camera new? Where did you buy it?
On the other hand, it is so much faster uploading the images from the memory card via a reader,slot of the computer or using the USB cable that came with the camera. WIFI is slow!! I'll see if I can find and download the manual and find the section referencing WIFI.

Me, too. I carry a "flip-phone" rather than a "smart phone"; however, I recently purchased a tablet (Android os) so that I can keep and show selected photos that I've captured with my cameras. I was hoping to find a way to move images from camera(s) to tablet "quick and easy". My experience, so far:

If both Fujifilm X-E2IV and tablet are up and running, it takes less than a minute for me to transfer an image via Wi-Fi by pressing one button on each device, even with no identifiable Wi-Fi signal present. It works even better than I'd hoped, and I get many "ooh's and aah's" from friends with small smartphone cameras (when we're showing off our travel scenes, and our grandchildren).

But, with the Sony mirrorless cameras, "not so fast!". In fact I'm still trying to figure out how to make it work, and I've followed the same destructions you appear to be following.

BTW; I've read in several places, that our mutual frustrations with "PlayMemories" is quite common among Sony camera users (even a rumor that Sony no longer supports it). In fact, it's become so frustrating that I'll not download anything from that website, to my camera(s).

I know I probably have multi-step workable options with the Sony's, but Fuj really has it figured out.

If all you are wanting to do is transfer images from your camera to your computer, you can either remove the SD card from the camera and insert into the SD card slot in the computer to start the download. Or you can transfer the photos via the mini USB cord/connector supplied with the camera. You shouldn't need any other software to load the mages onto your computer.

For Windows after you hear beep of USB registration open the file explorer you will see the camera as a new drive, drill down to see a list of pictures. Select and copy to where ever.

I rarely use play memories. I use mostly when downloading the Sony camera apps. If the a6000 has bluetooth, you might do better using that option. However, either option still requires a signature card.

I find that the WiFi transfer on the A6000 is really slow - both in setting up the transfer, and the transfer itself. As a result, unless I am only transferring a couple of files, I usually just pull the card, plug it into the PC and load my photos directly into Lightroom.
