Thank you so much. I’m so glad I’m not alone. I’ll fiddle around with different options. if I come up with something solid I’ll post it

Well, I invested a good portion of the evening, attempting to transfer images from an a6000 to an Android tablet and was successful, twice. Trying to replicate the "workflow" only causes further frustration. Most of the time I get "the pinwheel of death" until the Adroid device times out. I'm thinkin' the negative rep of "PlayMemories" is well deserved.

But, it works so very well with the Fujifilm ap and camera, I'll just be happy with that. Who knows; someday Sony may take an interest in modernizing their technology.

I have the Sony A6000 and got the transfer working. I have an Apple 7plus iPhone so if you have an android this might not help you. First you download the app Play Memories from the App Store and then open the app. You do a couple of quick things to input your camera info which the app will ask you automatically when first opened and then you turn on the camera. Get out of the app and go into settings then WiFi and wait a few seconds and watch for the camera to come up in the WiFi search. Select the camera and it will connect. Then get out of settings and go back and open the app and it will ask if you want to download the photos or files from the camera and you say yes and it downloads the images. After you have set this up and gotten it to work the first time and you have taken more pictures and want them to download be sure you have the phone opened to the memories app and when you turn your camera off it will ask you if you want to download the images, you select yes and it works. Just remember every time you want to download you have to have the app opened on your phone when you get ready to shut down the camera as that seems to be the only time it asks. Also be careful because I find I have to get the images off my phone and into the cloud or store them on my computer and delete them from the phone as iPhone has limited storage (my only gripe about Apple) and you can fill up your phone quickly with the photos. I have not tried this on the iPad yet but assume it would work the same. Basically you have to get your phone to recognize the WiFi settings from the phone and once you do it the first time it remembers the camera WiFi settings and can find it again without you having to get back into settings every time. Have the app opened and ready when you get ready to turn the camera off and it will ask you every time if you want to download the images. I hope this helps and if you can’t get it to work message me and I will try and fill in the blanks.

I have the Sony A6000 and got the transfer working... (show quote)

Thank you for taking the time to write this up, Nelson. I now have several selected JPEG images transferred from my RX100M3, to my Android tablet, for "show and tell". The replies on this thread + Alexander S. White's book finally got me there. The key is following the correct sequence, precisely. Even though the Sony process is comparatively cumbersome, I hope the OP eventually has the same success. Now, I'll attempt to duplicate the process, with the a6000.

Thank you for your commiserating on Sony's problematic software. After a tremendous amount of time fiddling around, I found two mistakes I had made. First I didn't take off the Otterbox cover off so there could be contact with the nfc point on the camera. My biggest mistake however, was to not turn off the point of contact that the Iphone made with my wifi connection. This allowed the Sony software to make it's own point of contact. I received some helpful videos from the "hogs" for which I'm extremely grateful.although I'm not sure my terminology is accurate but this did work for me. Good luck.
