I took this last summer using a Nikon D7100, 18-200mm Nikon lens set at 24mm and f3.7, approx 5 minute exposure using Firecrest ND4.8 (-16 stop) filter. Some post work in cleaning up noise etc. Would like to improve my skills in this type of photography, any comments, suggestions or critic's are gladly welcomed. Thanks for looking.
Excellent texture of the water. Silky smooth. I don't see how you can improve this but I am not a photographer. Just a hobbyist.

A beautiful image!!!!! That's for sure.
But why f3.7 and a ND filter, why not f22 without the ND filter?
That is very pretty...nice work.

Nothing to be critical about. Well done.

If she had used as you suggested, F22 how much longer do you think the shutter would have to open?
This is very nice. Long exposure is on my list of "must try"

Very, very nice photo, nice composition, love the sky....Looks like Pontchartrain?
Nice. I like that smooth water.
I like it a lot--first-rate photo. No suggestions from me because I haven’t done that kind of work yet, but it sure looks to me like you did a great job.
Well this was taken at approx. 6 pm in the summer, so still three hours of daylight left, it was also a sky with few clouds at f22 with no ND filter you could not get a long enough exposure to fog/soften the water, nor bring the clouds in to swirl them, even if you could get a one minute plus exposure, it wouldn't be enough. By using a -16 stop ND filter and a 5 minute exposure, you are able to give the water that almost icy look, and get enough slow moving clouds to give a more dramatic sky. It also helps to sharpen the edges on the dock pilings. A 3.7 F-stop helps to keep the digital noise down some. When doing long exposure photography, that is say, 3-6 minutes you should stay at F8 or below to help reduce the digital noise. I am sure someone else could explain it better, there are several great articles on long exposure photography and many posted photos, the effects are fantastic, but not something you can achieve just by using a aperture of f 22 or even f25 with no filter. It is the long exposure that uses the movement of water and sky to give a more dramatic look. I hope this explains it somewhat.
