What a bunch of bullshit. I am so tired of religious organizations wanting it both ways. Give us our tax exempt status, but also make us exempt from your stupid labor laws if we feel like it. Give us a handout in the form of tax exemptions, but let us lobby politically.

Hypocritical bullshit. If you don't like the rules of the game, stop playing. Give up you tax exempt status and register just like any other super PAC. I'm sure someone is going to point out that this was done by a Catholic front group, not the Church itself, but you're kidding yourself if you think the Church wasn't directly involved with this monetarily or creatively.

There was nothing wrong with the ad, there are all kinds of political ads that are put out by tax free organizations, nowhere in this ad did it say to vote against any politician or political party, if you want to talk about abuse of tax free status why not take a look at the work of Media Matters....

It is you that is being hypocritical and what was the other word that you used.... oh yes, maybe your words amount to little more than BS....

Yes when it comes to the dad-blastedted laptops and the annoying touch pad that will not stay sleeping when I am typing... I have a wireless mouse attached. How do i kill this touch pad or put it asleep tilll i call for it to awaken. I would even be willing to kiss it if I needed it to awaken. Perhaps touch it with a poison apple would put it asleep.

Dpullum.....it always goes back to Galileo. His theory was nothing new. Copernicus had already proposed the same thing. Why didn't the church go after him? Fellow scientist begged Galileo not go go down the road he chose. Why? Because the Catholic church was the primary benefactor to most of those scientists. Yes we Are slow to change but change just for the sake of change is not a good idea. And we did apologize.

Yes, in a way, I was... true the degree of success in controlling women is much better when it comes to the Taliban.. tho I admit that I am no authority on either the Catholic Church nor the Taliban, does being an authority on the production of Organo-Ceramic Titanium Electrodes count in bolstering my social judgmentt? Actually, I was saying that it is not a virtue of either organization to try to dominate women and control their reproductivee rights etc...

What would tend to sway the scientific folks away from the churches, especially the Catholic church... well, they are slow to adjust to change even based on facts...1992: Catholic Church apologizes to Galileo, who died in 1642 . see....

yes, actually I would accept your authority on the production of Organo-Ceramic Titanium Electrodes as counting heavily toward bolstering your social judgment scores.

dawgtired your comments are right. Back then it was much like the congress and their funding of science. Do not offend the purse holder. Yes, they (catholic church) did apologize and that was a good start.... and developed a sense of humor too...
The University of Arizona, together with the Vatican and Jesuit Order, announced today it named its newest high-powered telescopic instrument ‘Lucifer’.
http://333crucible.wordpress.com/2011/02/28/vatican-telescope-lucifer/

Taking the other side of the argument, the Catholic church does many good things and helps many people, both emotionally and materially. Much of society needs religion to hold to and to provide guidence for them. Much like a set of directions for living a successful life. I often refer to ants, bees, and elephants as having a social structure that assures continuance of the order of things that has sustained the society of their species.

Often I take the opposing sidargumentsments, because I have personal views from both sides. We were taught in debate and in open minded sciece to view from differing sides to seek the truth which is usually a middle ground. If you ask me should we get rid of the Catholic Church, I would say no ... basically a good organization... keep it.

True, some have gotten out of control with their "name of the rose" approach to controlling society. I cited the Argentine Dirty Wars which involved the Catholic Church and the Army a sad time in the Argentine society, 1970-80's .. we all should read that historConservativesvitives try to say we Christianristian state religion and tell us to vote for the far right. That concerns me. I really do not fear the church will come get me for my views on coating Titanium!!

Good.

That will be the likes of:

Amnesty International
Age Concern
Medecins Sans Frontieres
Water Aid
UNICEF

(There are plenty more).

You don't need god to be good.
(Well, perhaps YOU do?)

they are no atheists; just non-church affiliated.

When religion became organized, it became politicized. As a history buff, when I think about organized religion, I think about the Spanish Inquisition, Salem witchcraft trials, burnings at the stake during the Black Death years, public stoning, etc., all done in the name of "heresy" according to various organized religions. So when is the newest "reality" show set to begin?

I have a big problem with churches getting government funds or bringing politics to the pulpit. The latest example is re-elect Obama campaigns and Mrs. Obama going into churches and telling them the Obama presidency would be more in line with their creeds of helping the poor, etc. and urging to go and vote for Obama.
