Purchased a refurbed D750 body from Nikon last month. It came with the caps, hood, and no bag or manual in a white box. Count was close to zero. Looked great--all shiny and clean. I figured it would be an easier sell in a couple of years to say it was purchased refurbished from Nikon. Which cost me a couple of hundred extra over ebay or the used eqpt stores.

I have purchased cameras and lens from Cameta, Adorama and B&H. Keep in mind that the one year guarantee from Cameta is not by Nikon but their in-house repair service. I believe they list it on the page. The 90 day guarantee on refurbished camera and lens is by Nikon. Not sure if that is a big difference to you.

Just to be perfectly clear, the first 90 days is a Nikon warranty, same as for any Nikon refurb from any dealer. The subsequent 9 months is warranted by Cameta. I bought my d5500 refurb from Cameta and have been completely satisfied.

I got a refurb D610 from Cameta.... Only 12 clicks on the shutter. Yes, it was a Nikon refurb and was cheaper than what Nikon wanted on their website. Oh, as for requesting the shutter count, that likely isn't possible as they are already boxed up...Not like buying a used camera.

OK folks. The redundancy and repetition are OVERWHELMING.

Thank u all for the great suggestions. I'm pulling the trigger on the D7500. Can't wait. I'll give my D5500 to my wife.

How can you tell if the camera has a low shutter count? And what would a low shutter count be?

There's free software on line. Down load it to your computer. Take a picture with the camera and upload the jpeg image to the software and it will tell you the shutter count. Any shutter count lower than 200 is low in my opinion.

thanks for quick reply. But maybe I'm misunderstanding. Is shutter count the number of time the shutter is opened and closed? And do you know the name of the software?

If you Google "Shutter count" there will be a multitude of programs one can use...Yes, everytime the shutter button is depressed, it counts as a "click" regardless of an image being captured or not.

Thinking of purchasing Nikon D7500 refurb. Camera from Adorama. Would this be wise? It's $277 cheaper with just a 90 day warrants. Please give me some suggestions folks.

I have been exceedingly happy with a Nikon refurbished D810 that I bought from Adorama. It has now gone beyond even a one year warranty period without any problems.

Great. Thanks. So a count of 200 would mean that the first owner didn't hardly spend a day with the camera. Like new!

Most Nikon DSLR camera bodies are designed for over 100,000 shutter activations, so 200 is low.

I think that the newer high end Nikon DSLR shutters are rated at or above 200K.

I've purchased 7 refurbs, 6 from Cameta. They really do stand behind their refurbs. Only had issues with one body (the lens didn't snap into place) so you could just twist the lens on and off without pressing the release button. They immediately sent me the replacement, no questions asked. The other one came with a battery that didn't charge. Immediately sent the replacement, very apologetic. These are refurbished by Nikon, not by Cameta, so you know that the issue wasn't anything Cameta did wrong, but they were super quick and friendly, and I like that.

I also got one from B&H, with no issues, but a shorter warranty (honestly, it was before I had discovered Cameta) I did purchase my D-500 new, but only because of the nice price break, and free Nikon brand battery grip that came with it around the end of the year.

Since I haven't put the battery grip on it, because it's bigger than the 7xxx series, and fits my hand better, I do kind of wish I had gone with the refurb to save the $$. The grip is only a benefit if it gets used.
