Years ago, I found a bunch of 8x10 glass plates negatives at the flea market which I contact printed and here is the result. At that time Ron Partridge an expert on old photography, the son of Imogen Cunningham, did some research and he found out that these were taken by a French Artist who photographed and used these images as subjects for his work. These were taken around the late 1800 he said and by the looks the emulsion was applied just before exposing. The camera and the supplies were transported be mules. Boy, we have it easy today. LOL.

Great images !!!!!
You were lucky to find plates in such good condition!!! The ones I found were not worth printing or I should say trying to print as the emulsion was lifting from the glass. We tried different methods but it was a waste of time and these were not as old as yours.

What are the size of the plates ?

As spectacular as they are, I wonder what they looked like when new.

Thanks for posting and thanks for allowing downloads.

"Them thar hills are older than we thought!" in Yosemite Sam's voice.

Very fascinating and, as others stated, wonderful. It makes me wonder what is still "floating around" out there. That they are doomed to extinction due to ignorance or misuse.

Thanks for sharing.

Before I went back and read your intro, I thought "Dang, Mike's older than I thought." Thanks for sharing these, Mike.

Whoa. In the first one, I was looking for Charleston Heston to come carrying the tablets with The Ten Commandments. Really great shots.
