We too live in the boonies. We use propane instead of gas. Cell service is usually one bar. TV is DISH, which we find better than cable. Our water is well and ends in a septic tank.

And we use CenturyLink.Net DSL. We get a fairly consistent 10MB down and 0.75MB up. The problems are there is often a high latency rate (delay in finding the site) but once there, responses are fast. While we don't use it, the package includes a phone for about $60 /mth.

Would I recommend CenturyLink for internet? Not if cable is available? But it is far better than satellite.

That's where we're moving. Propane, spotty cell service, no cable (not being tied to the phone or TV is actually my idea of paradise) I checked DSL in the area a few years ago, and was told it was more like 4mb, which is horrible by the time you add another wifi device, but we could probably live with 10. I may look into Centurylink, thanks!

There is no cable there, and non planned for the foreseeable future. I've called and asked the cable company. Fiber optic stops about 15 miles away, which might as well be a million miles.

Satellite internet.

Sorry, someone said it before.

Lots of woods, we had horrible luck with satellite TV, so I'm just guessing that we'd have the same issues. After purchasing the equipment and paying for installation, I really don't want to be stuck in a contract, or have to just stop using it and leave a big ugly antenna on my new roof, but thanks for the reply.

In practical terms usually between 1 and 2 Megabytes of data per second typically for me and i'm fairly close to borderline for lte. I wouldnt get lte if the modem was inside.

I have been a CC subscriber since very early on. (basically, as soon as I understood how it would benefit me) I don't want to start that argument again.

Here's the issue. I'm going to be moving from the city to a rural location with no cable, Fiber Optic, etc internet. I'm looking at my options, but one thought I had was the verification of my CC account with adobe. Not a problem with the laptop and running to McDonalds, but I don't think I can carry my desktop with me to Starbucks or McD's.

So, how does one go about verifying Adobe CC when there is no high speed internet available? I may get DSL, but gheesh.... that's tough when you are use to 100gb fiber optic.

This is the one big drawback that we didn't consider when we decided to move.

I live outside St.Louis about 30 miles and we have no high speed internet, after a few years of dial-up I went with Hughes net . been with them 6 yrs now and have only had one issue which turned out to be ice on the transceiver. I have the Gen5 10 gb plan works great .

I too am living in the boonies. Here we have a high speed internet line about 8 tenths of a mile from us and the company will not extend it fof our use. Our solution was a hotspot from Verizon with unlimited usage for phone and internet. Costs about $100 a month but we do get slowed down near the end of the month somewhat. Also high winds and stormy weather takes it's toll on signal, but at least we have it.

I think the best thing for you to do is look at cellular data plans more extensively. The price points are coming down. Combine this with the hot spot suggested earlier and I think you would have a viable solution. I also found this article about putting iPads on the cellular network. It may help point out alternatives. https://www.imore.com/which-ipad-carrier-and-plan-should-you-get

Thats the main reason I use Paintshop so I don't have to be connected when I'm up at the cabin.

You can buy faster Internet service via a satellite dish installed for your dwelling.

we already know we don't have coverage with Verizon. Checked the sprint and T-Mobile maps, and this is what I see. Coverage around us, but we never seem to have coverage. Looks like I'll HAVE to go with satellite. Just a shame, because we had such bad luck with Satillite TV in the past. Hope the technology has improved in the last 8 years.

Thanks, though. I wouldn't have thought of checking the maps. At least it lets my know why we have no data when we are up there.

We recently switched to fiber optics from Hughesnet. After using up the 3G allowance, i had to upload or update during their "bonus data" hours of 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Thank goodness our rural electric company has been busy installing fiber optic in their service areas. Now I don't feel like a poor relative to my town kids who have cable.

Thanks, just plugged in my address to the "check coverage" and got the same answer.... No coverage.

Starting to sound like I won't have a choice, and will just need to go with whatever satellite company covers my area, and pay whatever they charge me.

As others have noted, you only need to verify with Adobe about once a month. And if I remember correctly, you only need to do it on a per account basis, not on each computer. Given that, a once a month visit with your laptop to a site that has free high speed internet to log into your CC account might work. You could pose that question on one of the Adobe forums. And, of course, this depends upon how you feel about using public wifi.
