Getting to that summit must have been quite a challenge. Thanks for making the effort and sharing your inspiring series.

Thank you again Vicki for checking out another of my topics in this series. I was driving but it was an interesting drive. It definitely is not one for the faint of heart. My driving skills learned by driving in the Colorado Rockies as a teenager served me well.

Let us continue the journey up and over Beartooth Pass. There were so many incredible sights on this drive that I don't have enough words to describe it. I have agonized over the selection of images for this one because it got rather dark with all the clouds so there wasn't the same bright contrast. That being said I will let the images do the talking.

Good evening Andrea, Loving your Beartooth Pass pictures! We were unable to get up to the heights you achieved due to snow arriving & in a couple of areas because of some of the fires. We could smell smoke at one point. But......your pictures are beautiful & peaceful! Your deer shot is also wonderful! Great camera! Will check more of these Montana later....since it's now 12:35AM & I work at 9AM!! Goodnight!! Bob

Good evening Andrea, Loving your Beartooth Pass pi... (show quote)

Thank you again Bob for checking these out. I felt extremely lucky to have captured the deer and she is very heavily cropped. But then again that is my best lens so it lends itself to cropping this way. I hate that you were not able to drive over Beartooth because as you can see it was an absolutely beautiful drive. I loved every bit of it. I am not surprised the snow came early this year. There was still a lot up there at the end of July when I was there.

I will find it and post it later. I took Kodak Brownie photos here in 1953. We came upon a Cessna that had crashed trying to clear the summit tundra. We found the pilot's eyeglasses and took them to the police in Red Lodge. He was recovering. Then on the way down, Dad ran off the road and bent the rear wheel well on our 1950 Mercury. Lucky it was the "good" side of the highway.

You can see our Mercury in the background. Three years later, I had my own darkroom.

My Dad worked in the Park during the Depression, and his sister was a cook for workers at North Gate-Gardiner.
