Without a doubt, the Standard Poodle. I almost always take my Standard Poodle with me on photo shoots. She is very intelligent and will walk without having to be on a leash or if necessary will walk on the leash. She is friendly and non threatening to other people. She never gets tired and seems to enjoy every minute of our excursion. This is my fourth Standard Poodle and they have all been great dogs and wonderful companions.

I've seen mallies, I would love a Malinois. Smart, brave, crazy. They go bananas if you don't keep them busy. They are not going to like cooling their heels waiting for you to adjust your shutter speed. The police and seal teams are the best places for them. Most dogs instincts are to run when threatened. Mals don't get that. Threat means no hesitation and bite. They are said to bite through their fear. If you're a Mal owner and put in the hard work, exercise and training, that another thing. Don't need to tell you.

Every dog I've had has been a mutt rescued from a shelter. They've all been smart, healthy and great companions. No need to visit a breeder, check out the shelters, they have the dog who needs you.
I am a dog lover and Pack Member for over 50 years. I never take my dog with me while photographing because:
1. I haven't been able to train them not to bump the tripod.
2. They have limit "Sit, Stay" time so I can compose.
3. I find it hard to hold the leash tight enough and control my dog and my camera, even my iphone. Talk about Camera shake!
4. I currently have a doberman mix. His attitude is a great security enhancement--a welcome addition to my 74 years.
5. When he's the photographic subject, all bets are off.
However, my son, who is a Land Surveyor, has a large Long Haired Shepherd as his Chief of Security when he's in the field alone. Because of modern robotic technology and the dog's intelligence and excellent training, my son is able to tie the leash to his rear belt loop and the dog just quietly stays nearby while the Surveyor gathers all the remote measurement data he wishes. He also stays away from the tripod! I am awed by both of them.

My vote, Long Haired Shepherd, Lab or Golden Retriever.

I would go for a golden retriever any time.
If you're recommending the golden retriever, why are you showing a picture of a yellow lab?

Any suggestions based on your experience?
Definitely Golden Retriever. Rex went with me this afternoon.
In my experience, which may not be the norm, the best dog I could imagine was my female Malemute, a shelter rescue. She was patient, quiet and loved to go hiking with me. I really miss her on photo jaunts. My current Malemute is very quiet and patient, as well, but has a hellacious prey reflex. However, she is getting over it and I am going to try her on some some photo hikes. That said, they are not for everyone, but if well trained they are great companions, all around! This is my first, Kiana.
