Try Jim Nix on Youtube. He does many Luminar training videos.

Use both Luminar and Aurora as a plug-in for both Lightroom and Photoshop, typically as part of my workflow. Can't seem to break my Lightroom habits due to the asset manager, basic adjustments and final adjustments prior to saving. It does appear that given some time Skylum will surpass LR & PS, then I'll use it as a stand alone.

I am using Luminar 2018 on a Windows 10 system as a stand a lone.
I enjoy what the Luminar filter came do to your photographs. I created three custom workspaces, one for light, one for details and one for color. So I have limited the filter I typically work with to make my work flow easier. I watch the Jim Nix YouTube videos to assist in reducing my learning curve time.
Luminar is still buggy (what new program isn't) but Skylum has delivered on several updates that improved performance and work flow. Still more to come.
Several of the different YouTube videos provide a purchase code for a discount, so watch a couple before you purchase to get the best deal.

Anyone using Luminar 2018 as a stand alone alternative for Lightroom or as a plug in? Is so what is your opinion?

Someone else just asked this same question. My response was I use it as a plug-in to LR and believe it is a good program that can give good results.

I've been using Luminar and Luminar 18 since they were released having used the Macphun CK suite before. I'm on Mac OS. I use it sometimes as a plug-in on Lightroom but also as a stand alone app. It handles my Fuji Raw files better than LR. I'm also using it in conjunction with Iridient Development and Alien Skin Exposure X2. I find Luminar a really excellent app - easy to use and produces great results with a great level of customisation. Highly Recommend it.

Yes and I have found it to be the best on the market so far.👍

The start screen indicates that it can be used as a plug-in for Lightroom and the full version of PhotoShop, just not yet for Elements. Of course, it can be used as a stand-alone, but without an organizer (yet) in Windows it's a pain.

That's a real plus for me... No Organizer. Windows Live Photo Gallery has a fully functional Organizer, but I have been teaching Windows files and folder system on all O/S Windows version since Windows 3.1 and Windows 95.

The file management capabilities of Windows 10 fully exceed anything from Adobe and other organizers.

Windows folder system and Windows Live Photo Gallery provide Tags and Stacks and other "sophisticated" features needed today.

Luminar 2018 not intuitive. No bubble pop-ups to inform of button purpose. Buttons not labeled. Difficulty purchasing it. Serial number rejected. Customer care slow to respond. Not a true alternative to Photoshop except in the dreams of the software owners. I'll wait to see how it evolves.

Not a good experience you're having. What OS are you using? Where did you try to buy it? I've never, ever had a problem buying, loading or running Luminar or Luminar 2018. All the buttons on my Mac version have labels. It's the fastest and simplest PP software I've ever used. It's also very customisable to personal taste and style. It's been evolving for quite some time from Macphun's CK suite, to Luminar and then to Luminar 2018. It's a shame it doesn't do it for you.

I spend only so much time trying to use flawed software, whatever the source of the flaw. I am computer literate. I trust my judgment from long experience with computers and software. Luminar 2018 fall short, despite the recommendation of Scott Kelby. I will continue my use of Photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw, and Bridge.

Nicolesy and Jim Nix Have great tutorials but also check out Anthony Morganti's series on You Tube. He does a great overview of the program and now he is going through the filters one at a time.
