Anyone using Luminar 2018 as a stand alone alternative for Lightroom or as a plug in? Is so what is your opinion?

Yes, like it, and this is an over-worked topic. Lots of previous comments...

I tried to use it as a plug-in for PhotoShop Elements in Windows -- found out that it does't work that way yet. Luminar told me that will come later but gave no date

Luminar works as a stand alone on my iMac, so I don't see any reason it wouldn't work as a stand alone on a Windows machine. I use Lumina as a plug on for Photos For Mac, but if you want to use it as a plug in for Lightroom, I guess you will have to wait as SaratogaMan mentioned.

The start screen indicates that it can be used as a plug-in for Lightroom and the full version of PhotoShop, just not yet for Elements. Of course, it can be used as a stand-alone, but without an organizer (yet) in Windows it's a pain.

My primary for processing is Affinity. I have Luminar installed both as a stand alone and as a plug in for Affinity. It works fine. I am on a PC and Luminar is still not quite up to par compared to the Mac version but it is coming along. I haven't spent a lot of time learning it yet but Luminar seems to be a very capable program and relatively easy to use.

Luminar on a Mac works great. Plenty of support on YouTube videos to ease that learning curve.

Luminar 2018 is a great post processor, I use it as a stand alone on my MacBook Pro. I still use Lightroom Classic to store and catalog my images, at least until Skylum releases the Digital Asset Manager (DAM).

Love the program!! If you are a Windows user, you can start in LR, send it to PS and then use Luminar as a Smart Filter, then when you save it back to LR as a psd file, it still has all the Luminar layers saved in case you want to go back to it later (just like if you use it as a stand alone). Currently, if you send a photo from LR to Luminar you will lose the Luminar layers when you save it back to LR.

I'm using Luminar Windows as a plugin, and it can be used as a standalone. Although not as complete yet as the MAC version, it is quite capable. If you want to quickly work on an image, you can use the presets and be done in one click. The real power of the program though is in the use of combinations of individual filters, layers, and masks. No DAM yet, but that's supposed to come later in the year. If you're curious, download the trial version and see how it works for you.

I'm using Luminar for PC and really love it. There are plenty of webinars available either live of for download. Suggest checking out the Nicholsy website it has been very helpful to me, free 7 lessons for 7 days got me started. Very helpful. Have already received 2 updates for Windows and am looking forward to the release of a DAM later this year, support so far has been great.

Not as a stand-alone. In conjunction with LR. I like it.

I have both, and I am still without an opinion, mainly because I am still getting used to the new Luminar. But I do like the results I have seen, so far. I guess I would keep both, up and running

The workflow without a DAM is a bit awkward, but I am enjoying the program.

I searched for that web site and could find nothing related to the words Nicholsy and Luminar.
