I shoot with Nikon DSLRs and a mid 1980's manual focus macro lens.

12 + years and 5000 or so posts.
It said 1.9 million views but I'm sure your count is correct.

Love the macro work and I love that you took some of your best photos with the 5dmkii. That's my camera.
Your work seemed to get better over time.

That upside down woodpecker was my favorite.

Can you monetize flicker or is it just an exposure thing?

That's one way of coaching, not the only way. The problem with always trying to get better is that you never get to the end. When do you get to good enough? Never. Eventually people stop listening. In college I was on the UCLA third shell varsity crew for one year (1964-65) Our coach had very few words. He only had one piece of advice for me the whole year, "your legs are your best asset, use them". The #5 man in our boat (the powerhouse seat in the center of the shell) got just one piece of advice the whole season, "put your back into it". Even though the third shell was only in two races, we won both by wide margins. We put the work into it and we did our best with every stroke. The scant advice we got from our coach was burned into our memories.

I coach softball. One question I always ask parents that want to join our team is: You have two runners. One has very good form and the other is a very sloppy runner. Yet they both have the same time. Who should I take as a student?

Inevitably I hear that I take the kid with good form? Wrong answer. He is as good as he is going to get. The runner with poor style can only get better with coaching. This is an indication on how well the parent thinks their kid needs coaching.

I don't want a parent telling me their kid doesn't need to be taught how to catch a ball or throw with accuracy. I want kids on my team that want to be better today than they were yesterday and be better tomorrow than they are today. That doesn't come from thinking you're good enough. It comes from "here is what you can do to be better".

The supposed "ugly" in this case has nothing to do with photography, nor with anyone improving their photography.

Congratulations on the recognition you have received, Scott!!

I don't know how somebody's photographic achievement, which should be appreciated and, in fact, envied, can somehow become about somebody else. BUT....that is what we have come to expect from certain childish individuals.

Christian or not, I can’t believe that you advocate envy. In my universe, that is the worst trait a human can have. What is wrong with just being happy for someone else’s success?

I'll always envy the guys with Major League ability. I'll never get away from that. I guess that makes me a terrible person.

Because people here dont want to learn. I have been called a spick among other nice things. They want attention, pats in the backs and praise. I have helped people but most of the time they react in an arrogant manner. It gets old. And dont come and say it was because I was rude. I was not. I despise that attitude and despise even more fake humbleness. To me its disgusting. Even more disgusting is this shameful show of butt kissing and hypocrisy.

Last night I just figured you for a belligerent drunk. At this point I suspect alcohol has nothing to do with it.
