To build the wall that you guys are envisioning is a fifty year project at least. If this country elected Republican Presidents for the next ten terms it will not get built. The impacts statements, public domain hearings, plan reviews, building codes on a city, county and state level and we are not talking just one state. Letting contracts with multi-partner construction firms, as no one firm could build this by themselves. Not all contractors are licensed to work in all states. Law suits and counter suits and the list goes on. What kind of wall do you build between El Paso and Juarez for example, is the existing border complex sufficient for the new wall? How many border crossings do you plan to have? The process to get to a set of acceptable construction plans will take a decade or more if it even gets that far. You have a better chance of going into outer space than the wall has of being built.

All I can say to that is that Trump and his sons have been building large buildings all over the world all their lives and they certainly know their way around those ropes. Eric Trump said he's been building walls since he was a teenager, and I believe they know how to get something they want done, done in a few years, IMO.
Ok nasayer, what's your suggestion to stopping the problem? More negativity about the wall and do nothing. That's what we have been putting up with probably at least the last 20 years or more. Time for something to be done!

Agree..and at least Trump is attempting to do something about it. Can't say that about the last three administrations. Regan tried, but he didn't stand firm enough to keep it strong.

It not a wall that will stop the flow of illegal drugs or illegals into this country. It is identifying the root cause that is most likely economic based, as there is a lot of money that is made quickly and easily by selling drugs. It is a well known fact that Illegal drugs flow in through every Port of this country by Air or Sea. For every spectacular drug bust you see that takes a hundred million dollars of drugs off the street, 800 million or more gets through. Our drug problems go back 60 years if not more and have evolved faster than the solutions to combat them. I wish I knew the answers to combating the drug problem in this country, but the Wall is not one of them. Call me a naysayer if you wish, but that is my opinion about how ineffectual the wall would be in deterring illegals drugs or people.

That may be so, but the Trump boys would not be in charge of building the Wall if it were to come to pass. I would think the Army Corp of Engineers would be in charge of the project and they would contract it out to private contractors to do the work. As I said before, it will take at least a decade before a shovel is turned in the earth.

The Army Corps of Engineers are but one contract bidder. Trump is not required to use the military to do what he thinks needs to be done, unless it's a National emergency, which it is not. It's urgent, but not a crisis....yet. I'm sure he will take their contributions under advisement, but the ultimate decision on who will build that wall is on Trump and those he has already appointed to accomplish it. Congress has already given him authorization to do it...they just haven't given him the money for it. He's negotiating that now, obviously.

Where's the land coming from?
Guess all you folks on the right are okay with the Government confiscating the land of American farmers and ranchers just to build an ineffective wall.

I saw on TV that they're still battling in court over a wall legislated by the Bush administration.
A better solution is to arrest and imprison those who employ illegal aliens. How about legalizing drugs and taxing them? How about raising the price of food so that US citizens can afford to work in the food production and harvesting industries. How about establishing trade schools that will train folks to be roofers, tilers, carpenters, ditch diggers, etc.
Lets see I build a 25 foot wall some 2,000 miles long. The guy on the other side builds a ramp 15 feet high and uses a step stool to get over the wall! Another guy digs a tunnel that goes under the wall. Of course we can lay land mines and subterranean minds on our side of the wall and be just like the Soviets!
I am sure you would endorse the land mine part!

No DACA either. Send the wet back Invaders home. They can get in line like everybody else.
We have to try and start somewhere. It boggles my mind those of you who say the wall won't work. Your opinion. But you offer no better solutions and as I said we have to start someplace or should we just sit around and bitch about it and do nothin as we have been doing?

Same place any land the government (city, state or federal) want's comes from. Either buy it or take it by eminent domain if necessary.

They do it all the time for lesser critical projects so why should this be any different?

I like the idea of a moat about 100 yards wide filled with very hungry piranha and gators and an electrically charged grid of about 1,000 volts 3 foot above the water surface and mines underground on our side and while were at it anti-aircraft batteries stationed strategically placed to shoot down any low flying aircraft. Let's seem them get past that?
