found another a little cheaper but it's coming from china, so may as well buy a D850 for now and use the d70s for backup when the button is fixed. See thats the answer he is looking for, right

The shutter release button on my D70s fell out recently and Nikon says they no longer can service this camera.

I "fixed" it using a toothpick shaved to the right diameter...hardly beautiful but it sort of works.

Any suggestions for repair, rigging a repair, or should I just give up and get a camera that doesn't use technology that is 14 years old!

Here's a useful/interesting video about your shutter button.

Buy a replacement for $15.

Shutter buttons are also available on Ebay and maybe some other sites if you want to try repair the camera. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Top-Shutter-Power-Off-Release-Button-Key-Switch-for-Nikon-D40-D40x-D50-D60-D70/332452726880?hash=item4d67ba0860:g:wgoAAOSw-xVaDoAX

That's a much better price.

Clever repair, but it's time. Treat yourself to a new camera.

There are many independent repair services around the country that repair film cameras. Can’t believe there aren’t some that can repair your Nikon for a reasonable fee, unless you just need an excuse to upgrade.

You could buy a d300 and strip it down for the button. Plenty of used working ones on e-bay.

Well if you’re going to insist on using this camera with a toothpick, you can buy these little round discs that are clear plastic that you placed under a Glass top to put on a table. You can buy them in Walmarts .....I have use them on top of my cameras shutter button because it raises it so that the button is not flush with the top of the camera. Just put a hole in the middle of it, peel off the sticky paper and put it right over the top of your toothpick. Wala a shutter button!

You did good! You didn't upgrade to another camera when your camera was still working perfectly. Now that it's no longer working as it was so it's time for you to buy a new one. Pick a nice one like the D5, D850 or D500 depending on what you like. By the way the Canon may be better but don't buy Canon. The Sony and the mirrorless crowd don't count as they don't have mirror.

Sell it for parts on eBay and get an upgrade refurb or something.

You might want to contact http://www.nikoncamerarepair.com/. This is an authorized Nikon repair service that is not owned by Nikon. They are located in Morton Grove, IL, just north of Chicago, They have done excellent repairs for me.

Hahaha...so every time a person wants to "upgrade" no matter what camera they have at the moment (even if they just bought it) they are deluged with advice to go for it!

THIS person has a freaking 10 year old camera that's BROKEN and worth $5.00 and folks are giving advice on fixing it.

This is one of the rare instances I'd say to upgrade...this thing has paid it's dues...spend $500.00 and get another camera.
