Shutter button fell out...Solutions? Time for a new camera?

The shutter release button on my D70s fell out recently and Nikon says they no longer can service this camera.

I "fixed" it using a toothpick shaved to the right diameter...hardly beautiful but it sort of works.

Any suggestions for repair, rigging a repair, or should I just give up and get a camera that doesn't use technology that is 14 years old!

This is a sign from above, get something new that ends in 850.
Pretty clever fix though.

Do you have the button? Maybe this is what you need to keep it in place? For some reason there is a shutter button stuff for Nikon cameras on Ebay. I do not know if this is what you need but maybe it is worth checking. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Shutter-Release-Button-Switch-For-Nikon-D40-D40X-D60-D70-D70S-D80-D90-D3000/251696679293?hash=item3a9a4a897d:g:1oYAAOSwmhJZuhPT

Thanks JPL.

Unfortunately it is long gone. After I realized it had fallen out it was super frustrating to carry my now dead-weight and useless camera around for the rest of the day :-(

I'll second the 850 thought.
My old flight instructor was right. A good carpenter can fix almost anything.

Thanks blackest.
Some of those parts prob cost as much as the camera is worth today!

yes $50 is maybe too much but the second at $20 seems a fair bet. there are many shutter buttons but they seem to be threaded is that how yours is ? Loads for the Nikon Df only a few dollars

buy a 4 dollar tube of epoxy. Take plumbers putty put a hole in it the same size as the old button. fill it with the epoxy, let it dry
Then drill or add any part that you may need. If Im looking at the tooth pick, cut a nail the correct length drill a hole in the epoxy button, add a drop or epoxy insert the nail and you have a new button. Yes Ive done it but not for a camera.

Shutter buttons are also available on Ebay and maybe some other sites if you want to try repair the camera. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Top-Shutter-Power-Off-Release-Button-Key-Switch-for-Nikon-D40-D40x-D50-D60-D70/332452726880?hash=item4d67ba0860:g:wgoAAOSw-xVaDoAX

found another a little cheaper but it's coming from china, so may as well buy a D850 for now and use the d70s for backup when the button is fixed. See thats the answer he is looking for, right

That camera is a bit long in tooth...., but can you assign one of the back buttons to release the shutter and do metering??
Thatโ€™s a cheap and easy solution if it can be done?!
Or get a cheap used battery grip and just use the side button when in landscape mode!!

may be threaded but I am assuming the old stem is broken inside the threaded base.

But your psychoanalysis is probably spot on...upgrade here we come!
