I was recently asked to photograph pets for a fundraiser. My effort as an amateur was strictly a gift of my time and what little I know about photography and editing. From my standpoint, it was an opportunity to enhance my skills as I was pushed out of my comfort zone, forcing me to learn some new techniques. Hooray for YouTube tutorials! There is still much to learn, but I must say I had a blast.

Suggestions for improvement are always welcome. There will be another opportunity for more shots (and new subjects) in two weeks. I can't wait.

Oh, my goodness, but these portraits are just wonderful!!!! You caught endearing expressions and your photo skills enhance the images!!! I love them! If they were mine, I would have, with a tiny pointer on my sharpening tool set to saturation, just popped a black portion of the eyes a bit more. This is a really itsy bitsy comment. I am enthralled with your pet portraits!

Thank you Edie. I appreciate your suggestion and will give it a try with future edits. I'm really having fun exploring editing options and find input from UHH members very helpful. It's nice to get constructive feedback.

Very nice job. I would imagine that it is like shooting young children.

I suspect pets are easier than young children. Fluffy hair is easier to correct, and you can get a dog to focus on a treat.

Thanks for taking time for this post JRFINN.

Hi Vicki, steps out of the comfort zone make for an interesting shoot. You've done an AWESOME job and deserve a pat on the back.
In the second one, for me, I would like to have seen the background just a tad lighter but as it is I like it. The one with
young lady, the cat and dog are a home run.
Well done, hold your head high, camera in hand and continue to venture out of the 'zone' you most certainly have the talent.

Your very thoughtful reply is greatly appreciated Jeff. I've been playing with backgrounds since I posted these. The editing tools offer an unlimited number of possibilities it seems, and it's interesting to see how the limits can be pushed. It's all part of a grand experiment and lots of fun.

You did quite well, Vicki. I, too, particularly like #3. The head tilt and direct look really gets me. All are cute. Oddly enough, my least favorite is the one with the little girl. It's cute. But the cat's obvious attitude sort of ruins the mood. But knowing the back story of the shot, it's fine!

Nice images! I really like the job you did with the lighting. Wow. I like shots #3 and #9 the best. (I am a bit partial to those poses!) I also like being able to see the catchlight in the eyes, and not quite so much of a side shot. Very well done!

Thanks for taking time to look at and comment on this series Rick. I really value your input.
