On this day, I had spent the best part of 5 hours walking around Whitby looking for inspiration but the weather was just not doing anything for me. The sky was almost a continous tone of grey.

As I stood up by the Abbey, I looked North and could see what appeared to be a storm brewing so I decided to make the 20 mile journey to a place called Saltburn By The Sea.
Just as I arrived, the rain was starting to fall, it was to windy on the pier for the large format camera so I grabbed the small wooden pinhole camera from the bag, placed it on a tripod and gave the film a 15 second exposure.
On this day, I had spent the best part of 5 hours ... (show quote)

The photo draws me in...creating a calming environment...even with the advent of uncertainty. Very nice!

This is wonderful with an iconic b&w quality that I see in many of the early masters!

Great shot Ian, brings back many memories. I was Quality Manager that oversaw the build of that pier. It was one of the most satisfying contracts that I worked on as it was the first pier refurbishment in the UK for many years. Company was Mandall Engineering in Sheffield. btw I also live in Donny.
