Its a handy section and posts are likely to be seen and answered by people who actually have answers :) not just guesses and you don't have to avoid certain posters who ask questions thinking they have the answers who then blocks anyone who disagrees and then bumps their topics when they don't get replies... sorry thats a different subject.

Take a look at ACDSee. They have been doing this a LONG time. If I ever leave lightroom I am using this. No database in the middle. Images import to and work from your hard drive.
Suppposed to be simple and you can download a free trial.

I need help in finding a good, simple photo editing program. I have had to buy a new computer with Windows 10 and my old programs will not work on it. I loved the simplicity of the old Olympus "Camedia" program which I used for years. The free program that comes with Windows 10 is not as good as the 7 was and will not add text or be flexible in the printing.

I need to "adjust" light, color, sharpen, crop & rotate, add text, and rename. I need to be able to print 12 or 20 to a page with the names on each photo.

I've tried Adobe "Lightroom". You can not add text with it and it is a monthly charge - not free or one time purchase.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have Windows 10 on my laptop. I have installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 and 7. Both work without problems. Personal favourite for routine editing is Elements 2.

I bought Elements 2 on Amazon for $10 + $3. S/H.

Picasa is easy and cheap. While it no longer is maintained, it is still available.

Faststone is what you are looking for. It will even identify your RAW files. Try it, you'll like it.

Fast stone would be my recommendation also

Can you add text, rename, and print 12 or 20 to a page?

Since Photoshop is part of the Lightroom CC subscription, you use it to add text to photos that you have imported to Lightroom. I just finished one project before I came up to the living room and read your message.
I have used other programs, but the combo is best for me, and while not free, the cost is reasonable. If you’re a smoker just give up a pack or two per month, or skip that candy bar each week.

Golly Gee... My sister has been on Windows 10 for two years and uses Camedia.... Horrible program in my book, but she's stuck on it. It came with her old Olympus camera. I know it works. In fact, I consult on computers, and have yet (personally) to see a 32 bit, or older software that does not work in the "compatibility" mode in Windows 10.

People who say older programs don't work, for the most part are listening to bad advice and not trying hard enough to use the software they know best, or are hooked on, are just not being creative and open-minded. Have you actually tried to load your Camedia, or go to Olympus and see if it's still available as an install file?

I just loaded it on my Sisters new Windows 10 computer from her old disk she got with her camera. This is her second Windows 10 Machine.

Windows 10 is far more forgiving than most people think. Also more stable than any previous version of Windows, which I taught at our local community college for 24 years, (or Since Windows 3.0)

While I am no great fan of Windows, this is all correct. My wife still uses, on Win 10, a 16 bit copy of Lotus 1-2-3! If you can get an install file or an installer exe then you can keep it if you like it.

As you can see, there are MANY choices out there! Although the things you list as what you want a program to do appear fairly straightforward and "simple", there are different degrees of adjustment that separate programs from each other. This is why a program that some people love will not satisfy others. The best way to decide what program satisfies your needs is to get the free trial of one, and use it for a while. Then if you are not happy, get a different free trial and test it out. [I suspect you have already done this with LR, since you have decided you don't like it.]

You may discover, as many others have done, that one program will not be enough! One program may do most of what you want [or even all of it], and another program may do what is missing or do it better than the other program.

Regardless of what program you are working with, there will be a learning curve. Being willing to put forth the effort to learn to use it is key to success and finding what works for you.

Have fun with the search!

I gave up trying to use Gimp and deleted it. I want an easy to use editing program that does not require a degree and learning "curve" to perform simple adjustments and deletion of extraneous objects (like wires) in a shot.

My first edit program was called PictureIt {Microsoft later purchased it}. It did routine tasks with little fuss, but I had no control over how they did it {for example, I would point at a spot, and they did they equivalent of smearing that area}. The final results looked a little sloppy to my eye; gimp gives me control to do it in a way that looks better.

I use a combination of Photoshop, the program that came with my Canon and the Microsoft Office picture managing system that comes with Microsoft Office. Between the three I can pretty much do what I need to do and without adding extra cost to the photoshop I pay for once a year

Since you already have the Adobe CC subscription, no need to add to costs - you have everything you need, including LR Classic CC. If you follow the "rules" using LR, it is a powerful organizing tool and a great basic editor. There are some things it does better and/or easier than PS, and the two programs are linked to each other so you can start editing work in LR, finish with additional edits in PS, then the pictures goes back to the LR Catalog which means it is also in your folder on the hard drive.
