Live view is great for setting the white balance in difficult lighting situations. You can see any white balance adjustment.

One of the main reasons to use live view is the increased range of focus point options.
In live view you can set your focus point anywhere within the frame and that becomes an active focus point. So you are not limited to 39, 58 or whatever your cameras limit is.
That is one of the main reasons for me to use live-view and it works pretty great shooting landscapes where you want to set your focus point at an exact point to achieve maximum focus throughout the capture.
I'm probably explaining it badly but do a google search for a more succinct explanation.
Hope this helps a little.

Live view is enormously useful in so many ways. First, with live view activated, the mirror is already up, so you eliminate vibrations from the normally moving mirror to get out of the way. Second, a magnified live view image is the best way I know to sharply focus on a given spot. Autofocus varies a little from shot to shot. That why Canon tells you to shoot at least three shots at each microadjustment setting to find out where the sweet spot is. When doing wildlife in a snowstorm, your autofocus is miserable and you probably won't do much better looking through the viewfinder to manually focus. I do lots of wildlife in snowstorms and I find the best way to hit sharp focus on, say a bison's face, is to use live view, magnify the face by 10x so maybe you can see some hairs better, or perhaps the eye, and focus manually on that. It works well. And a magnified live image will tell you in a hurry if a slight air current that you don't feel is actually moving your subject. And with my Canon 5D Mark IV, in live view, the Touch shutter is awesome beyond belief. It makes it so easy to shoot a focus stack. Doesn't touching the LCD in live view cause vibrations? Not much. I set it to sensitive so it will fire the camera and I can barely feel the LCD, and to ensure no vibrations, I set the camera to 2-second self-timer too. Live view is absolutely awesome, a real game-changer. Yes, it burns up batteries, but I use in constantly in remote areas like South coyote buttes or White Pocket, and I have no problem. Answer is more batteries, and a small gas-powered generator when staying a long time where there is no electricity otherwise. And some have trouble turning a polarizer for best results when looking through the viewfinder, but if they look at a live image, no problem. I know this from teaching so many photo workshops. If you don't embrace live view, you are really missing out on a fabulous tool!

Agree 100%. Sure was good meeting you in CdA Idaho while shooting the eagles. We hoped for clearer sky's next year!

I use live view on my Nikon D700 when I want to use a remote LED viewer made by Polaroid. I can walk around to check my composition and even be in the photo if I so desire. There are also some large LED screens that attach to the hotshoe. No specific information only some ads that tout the 7 inch screen usable in bright nlight. I think it has a sensor that fits on the camera led. Not sure about that. Look around on amazon and ebay and may just a search on line.
