I seriously doubt that your son can get any significant savings than the prices from B&H and Adorama.

Unless you are going to walk in to an actual Sammy's Camera, B&H, Cameta and Adorama on the WEB are all you need. This has probably been quoted a Billion times. All authorized retailers sell new equipment for no less than the same bottom price, be it B&H, Adorama, KEH, Cameta, Amazon, Costco, Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic. Any price significantly lower is Grey Market, Stolen, actually used or refurbished.

True... however, Adorama and B&H (I don't know about Calmeta) will usually bundle non-Nikon/Canon or whoever equipment with the manufacter (Nikon, Canon or other major brand) equipment for the same or slightly more so that (while not discounting the major brand) they can discount the package to add dollar value. Granted some of the add-ons are garbage or near garbage.. I got a Watson battery in addition to my Nikon battery and got lens cleaner, wipes etc. But it did come with a very nice Ruggard Backpack camera bag so it wasn't a total blow-off. If I had bought from Best Buy, Nikon, or some of the others, I would have had to buy the backpack, battery etc. extra. My main point is to say shop for the best deal that meets your needs. I also got free shipping on it all.

Samy’s Camera in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and elsewhere. Tucson Photo in AZ. I’m sure there are others.

My experience with Samy's is that they do not discount to the point that they are price competitive with Adorama or B&H. However, their sales staff is very knowledgeable, helpful and take the time with you. On the down side, they try to over sell you.

Agree about ABC as mentioned many times. With a lot of questions by the seller, and assuring that it is a USA model, with appropriate warranty cards, Abe's and Ritz are usually a *little* lower in price, but that said, I personally prefer Adorama and B&H. Have dealt with both and been satisfied. (If it is the Canon or Nikon line he's looking for, check out Canonpricewatch.com or Nikonpricewatch.com.) Good Luck!

If you are in the NJ area there is a very good camera store in Brick NJ called The Photo Center. They are quite knowledgeable and their prices are generally as good as B&H. Their phone number is (732) 840-1333.

I am wondering about your son's selection of gear.
If he doesn't know about Brian Smith (he probably does) he is the best
Sony reviewer on net. Here is his comparison of a9 to the a99II. He rates
for uses of each camera.
http://briansmith.com/sony-fullframe-flagship-showdown-a9-vs-a99-ii/

I have the a7s II for video and many e mount lens. Am I right that the
99 takes a mount and sony is moving forward big time with e mounts.
Please help me here gentlemen of forum. Thanks.

PS If your son want a discount from B&H or Adorama talk to them.
Why not buy the body and one lens and see if the camera is well liked?

My son called me today told me he is going to be purchasing new camera equipment and is planning on spending $9,000.00 for camera, lenses, filters, case, Mic and other misc items.
He asked me where l got my camera equipment from and told him B&H, but he was quoted to much money. Is there any other good internet stores to purchase camera equipment from at a good price? Has anyone used 42nd St. Photo, is there still a photo company on the west coast that does sales? I thought it was Seattle Photo l think?

I would like to hear from you on different places to purchase equipment from across the country with free shipping!

I have had some very bad experience with 42nd St, stay away from that company is my advise.

42nd St=bad news. Sold me a gray market Nikon on the pretext it was USA branded. Stay away. My motto, "once a lesson, twice a fool".

Anyplace with prices lower than B&H or Adorama, I'd be a bit concerned. Those are the best big, reputable dealers in the U.S. They also have very knowledgeable staff who can be VERY helpful answering questions. Both of them also offer free shipping much of the time. I've purchased stuff from Beach Camera, Norman, Midwest, Roberts (used), Pacific Rim (vintage stuff only), KEH (mostly used gear), too.

Amazon, Costco, Walmart, etc. might have SLIGHTLY lower prices in some cases.... but little or no helpful staff... and there may be sales tax, too, that offsets any savings. Costco and Walmart also have fairly narrow selection... usually just basic stuff. Amazon has a very good exchange policies, free shipping with Prime membership.

42nd Street used to be okay... but I've heard a lot of horror stories in recent years. Abe's of Maine is another dealer that seems to have gone off the rails.

There are TONS of fly-by-night, bait-n-switch outfits online. If you see prices lower than Adorama/B&H/Amazon.... BEWARE and do very thorough due diligence before giving them your credit card!

Search for online reviews of stores, to avoid problems. resllerratings.com used to be a good source of info about online seller, tho I don't know if it still is.

There used to be some good shops in Seattle, but I haven't been there in years and don't know what there are now. It's probably changed a lot. Many of the best stores here in the San Francisco Bay Area have closed (and their prices were always higher than B&H, Adorama, Amazon and a few others). Adolph Gasser... CLOSED. Keeble & Schuchat....CLOSED. Calumet... CLOSED. Los Gatos Camera Center... CLOSED. Kamera Korner (San Jose)... CLOSED. We still have some shops in the area (Samy's in S.F. for example), but nowhere near what we did in the past.

Canon USA and, just recently, Nikon USA are selling refurbished gear directly via their websites... sometimes can be good deals, free shipping there, too.

I've heard of Greentoe a number of times, but haven't used them yet.

Visited the B&H store in NYC 2 years ago. I have never been so impressed. The store is huge. The sales reps that I dealt with knew the products inside and out, down to the finest details. Didn’t try to upsell. Salesperson suggested I could buy there an save the sales tax by shipping to my home in Idaho. I can’t imagine buying any where else because they showed that they cared about my satisfaction.

I buy everything from Roberts Camera Store here in town - Indianapolis - great folks to deal with and they carry about everything you could want and will order for you if they don't have it. Advantage: they are knowledgeable and will help you understand what you may need. I prefer dealing with people face to face rather than through the internet or on the phone. Therefore, I have no advice on internet providers and can only say to shop your local camera shop. If you are not near a good camera shop, well...

Hunts photo in Boston. They have been great fast free shipping and super service they exchanged 5 nikon D 600's with dust and then they just upgraded me to the 610 because of all the dust issues each camera had. They sent the 610 about 2 months before nikon decided to replace defective 609's with 610's. Check them out
