My son called me today told me he is going to be purchasing new camera equipment and is planning on spending $9,000.00 for camera, lenses, filters, case, Mic and other misc items.
He asked me where l got my camera equipment from and told him B&H, but he was quoted to much money. Is there any other good internet stores to purchase camera equipment from at a good price? Has anyone used 42nd St. Photo, is there still a photo company on the west coast that does sales? I thought it was Seattle Photo l think?

I would like to hear from you on different places to purchase equipment from across the country with free shipping!

What is he buying? Is the lower priced gear USA model or gray market? Best to stay away from 42nd st, although some have been happy with their purchases.

Try greentoe, a bidding site. You name your price and companies will answer with their counter offer. Note that the bidding companies are legit so the price may not be all that different but at the very least slightly lower unless the product is 'in demand' or new.

PS: I’d think spending $9000, your son can afford a few bucks for shipping, but at the same time, I would assume that most outfits will throw in free shipping for a 9K order

Greentoe sellers include B&H and Adorama, so your son is safe. You get 15% off of msrp.

I bought my last 5 cameras (Canon T90 through Canon T6i) at Norman's Camera in Kalamazoo, MI. The have been national providers since the days when you had to look in shutterbug to find them - or the last few pages of Pop or Mod Photography. They have matched B&H, 47th Street, Abe's of Maine and others. In the pre-internet days, I had to phone in my order because they had mail-order prices if you were more than 35 miles (I was about 37miles) and then I would drive in and pickup the gear.

I would be very careful of anyone offering substantially lower prices than B&H. Be sure to look up reviews on the internet of them before buying.

Adorama gets my vote for stuff not carried by my local store.

They have a horrible reputation for not shipping what you order, shipping grey market merchandise and crappy customer service.

Seriously, B&H and Adorama are the benchmark in internet/by mail photo gear. If you find an appreciably lower price anywhere, RUN!

Samy’s Camera in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and elsewhere. Tucson Photo in AZ. I’m sure there are others.

Well going to greentoe to get 15% off of 9K is no chump change and it maybe either B&H or Adorama jumping on the order.
